Today's Helpful Hint: For some people, specific memories are difficult to locate and thus the EFT process can be hindered. In this case, it can be VERY helpful to ask the client to make one up. A made up story can often be ideal because the client can put in it whatever features seem important. Also, a made up story is not completely made up because it comes from within the person and reflects their understandings, experiences, etc.

Featured Article #1: A useful EFT phrase--"Reclaiming" all our possibilities: Suzanne Lerner provides a clever adjustment to the EFT language that should be useful for many. She says, "Implicit, in the phrase "I reclaim" is the belief that we already have these qualities, and just need to regain them. Having supported many people healing childhood or adult abuse issues, I know that one of the big challenges is the belief that you have become irrevocably "damaged." How refreshing then, to remind ourselves, as we tap together with the reclaiming phrase, of our inherent worthiness and capabilities. As we reclaim, our world opens up with new and wonderful possibilities." Email Suzanne and Visit her website

Featured Article #4: Restless leg syndrome linked to guilt - 20 years of restlessness gone in 2 sessions: Note how only partial progress was made until Marian Mills (from the UK) took aim at a specific event. She says, "When she came for the next session, some of the restlessness in both legs and arms had subsided, and she had had the first good night's sleep for years. But she wasn't completely better and felt there was more we could do. We started tapping for her feelings of guilt and remorse at 'giving her daughter away'...." Email Marian and Visit her website
Tips from the EFT Website
- Relationships, EFT and Spirituality: David Lake, MD (from Australia) walks us through some of his seasoned thoughts and philosophies regarding the spiritual aspects of EFT and the related Energy Psychologies. In his conclusion he says..."I see some inspiring parallels between EFT and practical spirituality. I find that EFT and all the Energy Psychologies have the potential to bring an aspirant to a clear space of inner peace." I would agree.
- The "proper words" for the EFT Set-up statement: Dr. Tam Llewellyn-Edwards (from the UK) sheds some light for us on the "proper words" to use for the EFT Set-up statement. While there are some occasions where the Set-up statement should be very specific (you discover this by experience with clients), the only guideline necessary is that the Set-up statement must be a phrase that adequately tunes the client into the problem. Thus, the Set-up statement is a simple art and does not reduce down to a library of exact phrases.
- Creativity with severely disturbed children: Ann Adams works in a residential treatment program for severely emotionally disturbed children. Bringing a new technique such as EFT into this conventionally oriented atmosphere is challenging indeed. I've spoken with her a few times on the phone regarding her challenges and have the highest regard for her caring and diligence. She's making good headway and has modified the EFT procedure somewhat to fit in with her unique clientele ...
- Using EFT for dreamwork: Here is another interesting perspective from Dr. David Lake in Australia. As he explains, "Utilizing EFT with Gestalt dream imagery is a satisfying process for the participant, leading to greater self-awareness...Such dream "messages"...become very direct communications, and using EFT to harmonise the associated feelings can be a settling process in one's inner world. From a small amount of dream material a wealth of inner meaning can result."
- Dyslexia and a query about EFT and mental illness: This post is from Lynn West. Her request is a technical one and hits on an extremely important point that is destined to be debated in the medical communities as the years unfold. We are able (with EFT) to give impressive relief to many problems for which the medical community posits a chemical cause. Why is this?
- Non-therapist relieves stress in the form of a temper tantrum.: Sometimes we experience stress or anxiety for reasons we are unable to discern. We may cry or have angry outbursts and aren't really sure why. "It's just stress," we might say. Blair Hornbuckle is a layperson--a non-therapist--who creatively and gently applied EFT to a three year old boy who was displaying stress in the form of an unexplained temper tantrum.
- Raising your metabolism with EFT: It should come as no surprise to experienced EFT'ers that better metabolism is achievable through EFT. Fortunately for us, EFT Contributing Editor Silvia Hartmann, PhD of the UK experienced these improved metabolism possibilities many years ago in a hypnotherapy session. As you will see in her message below, the results were stunning. In recent times she has converted the hypnotherapy protocol to a more efficient EFT protocol and shares it with us in her article.
- A very detailed message on a young girl's motion sickness: A special thank you to Dr. Patricia Carrington for this very detailed case regarding a young girl's motion sickness. You will find herein professional uses of EFT, rapport, props, tapping variations and high quality detective work. These are the kinds of details and creative work that merit our study because they provide parallels that can be used in many other types of cases.
- The importance of being specific: This tutorial is important enough to read read several times. Why? Because it addresses one of the most common errors made by newcomers to EFT. The problem is that most clients tend to see their issues through "global glasses." That is, they describe their issues using broad labels which, to them, seem very specific.
