"Even tho..." for golf
Hi Everyone,
A recent request regarding golf had to do with compiling a list of "Even tho...." statements to use with golfers. I thought I would suggest a few for consideration. First, however, it is useful to recognize that golfers typically operate within "comfort zones." That is, at a subtle level, they feel they "belong" in the mid-80's or low 90's or whatever. You may be able to help them improve their putting, fairway shots, etc. but, so long as the comfort zone is in place, they are likely to blow other parts of their game and end up scoring within their original comfort zone. This tendency, I find, is prevalent in performance of all kinds--sports, income, music and so on.
Accordingly, it might be worthwhile to have a few "Even tho...." statements that address a golfer's comfort zones. Here are a few.
- "Even though I may have barriers to shooting in the 70's...."
- "Even though breaking ________ seems too big for me...."
- "Even though if I shoot ______ I would feel uneasy about being among the elite at my club...."
- "Even though I think that shooting consistently below _______ would require more practice time away from my job and family...."
Also, many times there are unique emotional issues (writing on the walls--tail enders) for individual golfers. Some of them might be addressed by...
- "Even though I fear my brother's reaction if I shoot better golf than him....."
- "Even though I take out my anger at my spouse by swinging too hard...."
- "Even though that little cup represents my inadequate feelings around Betty..."
- "Even though I try too hard at this game (and everything else) just like my father pushed me to do...."
- "Even though I think being the worse player in my golfing group helps me keep friends...."
Golf, as it turns out, can be a magnificent environment for emotional healing work. Many of the golfer's personal issues show up on the golf course.
Hope this helps.
Hugs, Gary
