Hi Everyone,

Deborah Miller PhD from Mexico gives us many vital thoughts for EFT sessions that last many hours or days. She illustrates this with an extended session for her Bulimic client. Health professionals and serious EFT students will find some priceless gems in Deborah's article.

On average most practitioners provide EFT sessions that last about an hour.  I had an opportunity to work with Angelica (not her real name) in what I’ll call an EFT Intensive.  We spent 3 days and then later 6 days working together.  It was powerful and useful to work through the many layers of the issue she had.  I believe it will be useful for others to know about this option.

Namaste,

Deborah

Intensive Individual Session

Let me describe what I am calling an EFT Intensive Session.  First of all, the session involves one person being attended by an EFT practitioner for many hours or days at a time.  The client gets individualized attention, tapping on the many layers of a long-term or in-depth issue instead of waiting between sessions to start up again.  The intensive has momentum and keeps working on an issue until deeper layers are discovered and released. In this way an EFT intensive session is powerful.

Let me give you the reasons why we chose to do an Intensive EFT session, the benefits and requirements involved, followed by an example of how I organized the session.

Reasons for Doing the Intensive EFT Sessions:

  • She lives in a city hours away.
  • The issue at hand was a 20 year problem with bulimia.  Angelica has tried many alternative modalities to overcome it such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, energy, intuitive massage.  She also has had plenty of mainstream therapy, too - including hospitalization and a residential eating disorders program.
  • Nothing has given her lasting relief.  She feared she would never overcome this problem.
  • It wasn’t likely that one hour EFT sessions would get to all of the layers involved in this complex problem in a timely fashion.

Benefits:

  • Allowed us to focus and stay focused on the topic, dig deeper, find links between many topics, people, situations and events while continuing to release, release and release.
  • Led to great shifts and a deep unblocking of the body’s energy system.
  • Connection between client and practitioner deepened allowing further insights.
  • It is incredibly powerful.

Requirements:

  • Be prepared mentally, emotionally and physically to “stay connected with” the client for long periods of time.
  • Be focused, tuned into and attentive to your client’s needs as well as your own.
  • Watch for signs telling you one or both of you need a break.
  • Know when to stop and/or include a different technique.

Example - Three Day Intensive with Angelica:

  • We did EFT together for about 6-7 hours a day.
  • We went for 4 hours straight with only water and restroom breaks.
  • We drank plenty of water to keep us hydrated.
  • We took 2 hour breaks for lunch.
  • We returned for another 2-3 hour session.

What I described was perfect for the first day.  The second day we began the same, 4 hours in the morning, a 2 hour break, but in the afternoon Angelica couldn’t shift any more energy and didn’t desire to tap or speak.  At that point we stopped tapping and I gave her Reiki.  It allowed her to continue releasing while receiving Reiki which helped adjust and align her energy field.  Angelica is very sensitive and could feel the energy moving and flowing through her body in ways she hadn’t felt in years.

After 2 days, we took a break for one day.  In this case it was necessary both of us.  The final day we did 4 hours of EFT in the morning, took a longer break of 3 hours and ended with another Reiki session.  At that point we felt complete.  Not because we believed we had gotten rid of all her issues or the bulimia, but it was the amount that she could shift at that time.  We chose to have further phone consults within a week.  She was free to contact me at any time if help was needed.

After a few months of phone EFT consults my client realized she wasn’t yet capable of doing EFT on her own.  We set up the second EFT intensive of 6 days.  We followed the same overall procedure, and found our rhythm quickly and sustained it for longer periods of time.  This time we included outings to places that normally caused Angelica to feel stressed and agitated.  We found that tapping in these places was of great benefit.

The overall results of the EFT intensive can best be described in Angelica’s words, “After the EFT intensive I felt hope for the first time in years that I could overcome bulimia.  I know I have more to release but now realize that my problem is not bulimia but blocked energy.  Bulimia is just a symptom.”

What results came from the Three Day Intensive:

  • Greater happiness
  • Hope for the first time in years that she could overcome bulimia.
  • No binging or purging for 8 straight days with little anxiety.  This was the first and longest period without doing so in years.
  • Released tension in her body: shoulders, back, coccyx
  • Vision cleared
  • Less stress and anxiety
  • Cleaned computer area where she tended to binge
  • Released many childhood, teen and adult traumatic experiences
  • Released brain fog
  • Serenity and peace of mind and body

I would highly recommend an EFT intensive. I would also caution that in order to properly facilitate an EFT Intensive the practitioner and client need to be prepared.
