Sarah Jordan makes progress after realizing a childhood need
Hi Everyone,
This insight from Sarah Jordan should be helpful to many.
Hugs, Gary
I was working pretty systematically through my childhood and at some stage realised I was making no progress. It took some time to realise what the stumbling block was. While I have no problem with the phrase 'I deeply and completely love and accept myself' I finally realised that the self I was accepting is the 'now' self and the 'child' self was rebelling.
Inherent in the tapping procedure is the wish not to have the feeling (whatever it is) any more. This is implied in the 'even though'.
However those strong feelings that the child had were part of that child and the child needs to feel that it was OK to have those feelings. The feelings, felt as a child, have played their part in making the person who they are today and cannot be wished away. The child needs to feel those feelings are accepted and perhaps have had a positive outcome is making the person, say, a stronger person today.
So in those circumstances I use something like 'Even though I felt so angry as a child I deeply and completely accept that I felt that anger and I accept that experience as part of me and it has made me the strong person I am today'. This is a bit wordy and can be shortened as appropriately.
It was necessary for the child within me to not feel I was trying to change them and make them someone else - i.e. a calm well behaved child! I found this effective in being able to move through and defuse the effects of my childhood traumas.
