A New Way to Use the “I Deeply And Completely Accept Myself” Phrase

Hi Everyone,

EFT Master Pat Carrington shows us how, in some cases, to creatively use the EFT Setup Phrase to add more benefits. This is especially useful when there are self esteem issues involved.

Hugs, Gary

I have been using an approach I devised some time ago called the “EFT Choices Method” for some years now to create powerful targeted positive choices in EFT, but because of this, many people don't realize that I still use the EFT default phrase, "I deeply and completely accept myself" whenever I find it appropriate, which is often. I find it especially useful, for example, in instances where issues of self-esteem are important to a person.

When using the EFT Choices Method a person repeats the positive portion of the EFT phrase -- it is called a positive "Choice" -- at each EFT spot for one whole round of tapping (after they have first done the negative portion of the setup phrase for one whole round).  This method works excellently to install a positive Choice, and now I have discovered that it is extremely useful to follow the same “whole round of tapping” using the EFT self-acceptance phrase.

This idea came to me naturally one day when I had suggested to one of my clients that she do ONE WHOLE ROUND of EFT while repeating the EFT default phrase, "I deeply and completely accept myself" over and over again as she moved from spot to spot.  I did this because I wanted her to reach a deep state of self-forgiveness and acceptance of herself with regard to an incident in the past where she had been afraid to defend her handicapped sister from the taunts of other children at school.

The result of this round where she repeated ONLY the self-acceptance phrase was immediately apparent –– it had a profoundly calming effect on her and made a decided difference in the way she subsequently viewed herself.  I was impressed, and since that time I have encouraged those using the standard EFT self-acceptance phrase to do the following:

After saying the complete EFT set up statement three times while tapping the karate chop spot or sore spot (in the case I just mentioned it was, "Even though I couldn't help my sister at that time, I deeply and profoundly accept myself") you then repeat your negative phrase (for example, "I couldn't help my sister", "I couldn't help my sister") at every tapping spot.  You will recognize this as the standard EFT procedure.  The difference comes when, during the next round of EFT you repeat, "I deeply and profoundly accept myself", "I deeply and profoundly accept myself" at EACH TAPPING POINT, again for one whole round of EFT.

It is my distinct impression that this deepens the effect of the self-acceptance phrase.  While I have no controlled research that shows that this is more effective than just saying the full self acceptance statement while rubbing the sore spot (in the long form of EFT) or tapping the karate chop spot (in the short form of EFT that I almost always used today, as does Gary Craig) it is my strong impression that the meaning of these words becomes deeper and more powerful in its effect when people repeat this phrase for one whole round of tapping.  They clearly like doing this and I have noticed that they have tended to use the phrase, "I accept myself" more often in their speech afterwards that when they have used the conventional EFT protocol where the default self acceptance phrase is repeated only during the setup.

I encourage you to experiment with this.  One thing is certain, it will not hurt you to accept yourself too often, so you cannot overdo this statement!

Important note: While EFT has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still be considered to be in the experimental stage and thus practitioners and the public must take complete responsibility for their use of it.
