How to search for an EFT Practitioner
Hi Everyone,
Looking for an EFT Practitioner? There are thousands of them throughout the world and many of them are listed on the internet. EFT Master Patricia Carrington shows you how to locate them.
Hugs, Gary
Suppose you want to explore the possibility of working with an EFT Practitioner on an issue you have. What do you do first?
You may have the good fortune to have a friend or colleague who can highly recommend a certain EFT Practitioner to you, or you may meet someone at an EFT conference who has had a great experience working with a particular practitioner, and this way be able to obtain a solid referral. But for most people this will not happen because, although it is spreading rapidly, EFT practitioners are not as prevalent as they undoubtedly will be in the future.
Locating a therapist, counselor, coach, or other professional who will meet your personal needs always means searching, but it is well worth the effort when you find the right one. To help you with this process there are two lists of EFT practitioners that you can consult with confidence.
GC COMMENT: Recently there has been established a third list for EFT Masters
The first list is administered by the founder of EFT, Gary Craig, and can be found on this website. It contains information about a number of EFT Practitioners whom Gary has asked to represent to him honestly, as a condition to being admitted to the list, that they:
1. Use EFT as a primary technique and not just as something to augment other methods that may actually be the true focus of their practice. This is an important consideration if you are seeking a practitioner who will concentrate on using EFT as the main way of addressing your problems.
2. Have used EFT successfully with at least 50 people on a one-to-one basis. Here Gary asks for assurance of adequate experience and success on the part of an EFT Practitioner as a major prerequisite for successful EFT therapy or counseling.
3. Have mastered, as a minimum, Gary’s two EFT video sets: (1) The EFT Course and (2) “Steps Toward Becoming the Ultimate Therapist” These are essential for understanding the principles and practices of EFT, and thorough knowledge of them is a must for any EFT Practitioner, although most Practitioners will have gone well beyond these basics.
The second list consists of people who have passed the EFT Certificate of Completion (EFT-CC) Examination or the EFT Advanced (EFT-Adv) Examination, which provide objective evidence that they have studied and fully understand Gary Craig’s Basic “The EFT Course” and (for the Advanced Certificate) his “Steps Toward Becoming the Ultimate Therapist”. These examinations are based on Gary Craig’s condition that Practitioners master the essential elements of his work as a minimum requirement for helping others with EFT.
Although the two lists overlap somewhat, essentially they represent two different ways of sorting the EFT practitioner information.
In both lists you can search by geographical location (state or province, or country), but only in Gary’s list can you search by specialty. Only in the EFT Certificates list (which I myself administer, see http://www.eftupdate.com ) can you see photos of many of the practitioners and link to their websites. The descriptions of their practices also differ somewhat in each of the lists, so many people prefer to consult both lists (even for the same practitioner) when making a decision as to whom to contact.
Strengths and Limitations of the Practitioner Lists
A strong point of these lists is the fact that each practitioner, in addition to submitting his or her own description of their work when applying to be included on the list, also fills out a standardized questionnaire, and their responses to the questions asked are given with each entry, allowing you to make somewhat of a comparison between the practitioners’ backgrounds.
A limitation of the lists is that the practitioners included on each one volunteered to be listed, and you may therefore find that some highly qualified EFT-trained therapists are not represented in them. These people may have such busy practices, for example, that they do not wish to advertise their work or have other reasons for not listing their practices. However, you will get some very useful leads from the lists nevertheless, and when you are seeking an EFT therapist you will usually want to consult them. Here are some pointers to keep in mind if you do so:
Recommendations of Practitioner Competency
An important fact to keep in mind is that these lists purposely do NOT rate the competency of the practitioners listed because those who compile the lists have no way of evaluating a practitioner’s work. The latter is an extremely complex task which can only be undertaken within the framework of an educational/supervisory program. The Practitioner lists might be compared to Yellow Pages listings in a telephone book that steer you to individuals who offer the services you are seeking, but do not evaluate their work. It is therefore up to you to explore the suitability of any particular practitioner for your own needs. I will be discussing ways in which you can do this in my next article.
