Medical transcriptionist says that in thousands of serious medical cases, she never saw a cure for anyone

Hi Everyone,

Connie Kvilhaug worked for 6 years as a medical transcriptionist, typing out what physicians said about their patients' progress. While I am sure that people get cures from the medical profession, Connie didn't see any such evidence out of thousands of serious cases. Like me, she doesn't blame the dedicated doctors. Rather, she believes that doctors are doing the best they can given the medical options available to them. In my view, if physicians were trained to address the emotional causes of diseases, their results would dramatically improve.

Hugs, Gary

By Connie Kvilhaug, EFT-ADV

Hi Gary,

Before I found EFT and completed my advanced EFT training, I was working in the medical field as a medical transcriptionist.  As people may or may not know, a physician is required to document every office visit from every patient, and most doctors verbally dictate their office notes into a Dictaphone-type device.  At the end of each day, the doctors might have 1 or 2 tapes filled with office notes about their patients, and those tapes are then sent to the transcriptionist.

As a medical transcriptionist, my job was to listen to and decipher those doctors' tapes and then type them up into reports.  These written reports were eventually put into a patient's file.

Over the 6-year period that I worked in the medical field, I transcribed thousands of reports for doctors who treated patients with back pain, body pain, headaches/migraines, neurological disorders, spine disease, mental disorders, sinus disease, and degenerating illnesses such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, ALS, and the list goes on.

The majority of my time was spent transcribing reports for neurologists.  Neurology deals with anything involving the nervous system or any type of neurological-type disorder, including migraines, back pain, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Lou Gehrig's disease, etc.  Modern medicine does not have a lot to offer most of these patients.  Never in all my time as a transcriptionist did I transcribe anything that resembled a "cure" for anyone.

It soon became very clear to me that many of these patients never got any better and failed to be helped by conventional methods, including drug therapy, steroid therapy, or even surgery.  The typical pattern of an office visit went something like this:  the patient came in, the doctor prescribed a medication (or handed them free samples of whatever drug he had on hand), and told them to come back in 3 to 6 weeks.

The patient would come back, state the drug either didn't work or couldn't be tolerated, and the doctor would change either the medication or the dosage, and would tell them to come back again in 3 to 6 weeks.  Some patients would come back several times, trying a whole plethora of medications, and even if the patient was one of the lucky ones for whom the medication gave relief, many times the drug would lose its efficacy or the patient would develop some type of intolerance to the drug.

The side effects of many of those drugs were completely unacceptable.  If a patient complained too much or seemed too negative, antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications were prescribed as well.  Because of pain keeping them awake at night, patients were often prescribed sleeping pills.  It did not take long before the patient was on a myriad of medications.

Depending on the type of medical problem, the patient might then be sent to another "specialist" who might then try different types of medications or perhaps suggest surgery.  I transcribed a lot of back surgery notes, and I do not recall any patient that was 100% satisfied or 100% cured of his or her pain.

Many times, the patient's pain was not alleviated, and in fact, at times the pain escalated after surgery, sometimes due to scar tissue being formed.  This meant many patients were sent in for another surgery or were doomed to taking painkillers for the rest of their lives.  Unfortunately, because of the addictive nature of many of those medications, patients would get dependent on the narcotics, and would then have to be weaned off these drugs and tried on something else.  Many folks were sent to some type of rehab to try to get off these powerful narcotics.

Because medical transcriptionists sometimes get different tapes from different doctors daily, we didn't always get the same patients, so I did not hear the end result of every patient I ever transcribed.  However, looking back over all those years of transcription, I am hard-pressed to remember even one cure that I typed.

When asked what percentage of patients were cured in all those thousands of reports that I transcribed, I would have to say 0%.  Again, in all fairness, there are not a lot of cures available for neurological disorders.  Some people did get relief from some of their symptoms by the use of certain drugs, physical therapy, etc., but I do not recall any patients that were able to get rid of their symptoms completely or have 100% full recovery or relief.  Many patients were just medicated to the point where they could say that the pain was "tolerable" and that they "could live with it," or the symptoms were kept to a minimum.  In my mind, that's not living.

I feel very strongly that we need to get the word out about EFT to as many people as possible.  There are way too many people who suffer through life, who are at the mercy of their doctors, and whose only known hope is the next new "miracle drug" that might come on the market.

I saw this first-hand as a medical transcriptionist.  I don't fault the doctors - I truly believe doctors are doing the best they can with the conventional options that are available to them.  However, I would love to be able to offer our doctors another option for their patients - the option of EFT.  It is safe, it has no side effects, and it doesn't cost thousands of dollars!  And EFT could be a way to help many patients alleviate the pain and symptoms associated with their disorders.

In good health,

Connie Kvilhaug, EFT-ADV
