Allowing EFT to come THROUGH you rather than BY you

Note: This article assumes you have a working knowledge of EFT. Newcomers can still learn from it but are advised to get our Free EFT Get Started Package or our Affordable DVDs for a more complete understanding. For more, read our EFT Info and Disclaimer Document

Hi Everyone,

One of the major EFT concepts in our DVD set EFT - Beyond the Basics (formerly, Steps Toward Becoming The Ultimate Therapist) involves using Guidance for finding core issues. Read this quality article by Sheila Wardale of the UK, and you will see that anyone with a little dedication can do this.

Hugs, Gary

By Sheila Wardale

There is one major difference in emphasis between counselling and EFT – in EFT the best results come when the practitioner takes him or herself OUT of the picture and lets go completely.

One woman and her husband had been coming to see me for about four weeks for couples counselling.  She was very submissive and dreadfully unhappy.  She complained of low self-esteem although this was not apparent in her demeanour.  She was a highly intelligent lady who had achieved much in her life and worked for the CEO of a large organization.  For some reason she could not accept her achievements as being anything worthwhile.

We agreed that she and I would work alone on some personal issues.  I introduced tapping to her and she was anxious to have a go.  She told me that she had felt second best for a long time and seemed to come second in most things.  For example she was second best in her academic work, second in her athletic trials, and was even currently second in command to the CEO at work!  We tapped.

Even though I feel that I’m second best in everything, I’m working towards deeply and completely loving and accepting myself.  (she changed the words to reflect how she felt about accepting herself)

Even though I’m always feeling second best…

Even though I could never achieve a first…

Even though no matter how hard I try it’s never enough I’m just not good enough I feel like a failure I’m just not good enough…

I started to feel a little anxious that we weren’t really getting anywhere.  I had a sense of not being able to help her, of not being good enough myself.  I wondered where this feeling was coming from.  Why did I feel the urge to give her something, to make up for my inadequacy?  I felt quite responsible for her.  I realised that I was holding on to her emotionally and was putting quite a lot of effort into stepping into her world and helping her.

With this realisation I suddenly let go and had an overwhelming feeling of submitting myself to the work at hand.  Suddenly the question “why are you punishing yourself?” (in relation to the client) came into my mind.  I asked her this question and she suddenly burst into tears.  She said that she didn’t know why she was crying or what it related to.  I asked her to have a guess.  She responded by saying that something had just popped into her head that she had completely forgotten about.

In her teens (she was now 32) she had gone through a phase of being extremely promiscuous.  She said that she hadn’t told anyone about this, as she felt guilty about it.  She cried and we tapped that she was okay and could now choose to let this go.  She calmed and said that she couldn’t believe what had happened but now knew that for all these years she has been deliberately stopping herself from achieving her goal.  Coming in second was her way of punishing herself.

She said to me, “I don’ know where that question came from but it seems to have been heaven sent”.  She was right, I felt that the question hasn’t come FROM me, it came THROUGH me.  There was some more work to be done with this client of course, but I got the feeling that a huge core issue had been tackled, which hopefully would now enable her to move on with her life.

Since then my only aim in any tapping session is to have no agenda, but to free my mind and trust that something will come through – and something usually does, even if it’s when you least expect it!

Important note: While EFT has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still be considered to be in the experimental stage and thus practitioners and the public must take complete responsibility for their use of it. Further, Gary Craig is not a licensed health professional and offers EFT as an ordained minister and as a personal performance coach. Please consult qualified health practitioners regarding your use of EFT.
