MD forgets inhaler during exercise class
Hi Everyone,
Here is an excellent example of EFT working when the client has no belief in it whatsoever. In this case the client is an MD whose medical training is completely outside of EFT. Notice that, even though his asthma relief is swift, he "explains it away." This is a common phenomenon for most newcomers to EFT. It is just simply too far outside their belief systems (so far).
Hugs, Gary
As an exercise consultant, I was taking a client of mine (a medical doctor) through an exercise routine one afternoon. He had an asthma condition for which he used several medications. When his chest would begin to tighten, or if he began to wheeze, he was supposed to use his inhaler.
Halfway through our exercise session he reported a chest tightness and some wheezing. He searched through his bag for his inhaler and soon realized that he had left it at home. I suggested that we try a round or two of EFT to try and reduce his symptoms. He agreed but, as a medical doctor who's main avenue of treating people is prescription medication, he was rather skeptical.
The wheezing and tightness (which were not addressed as separate aspects) was rated as a 5 initially (on a 0-10 scale). After a round of "Even though I have this tightness and wheezing..." he was down to a 3.
After another round for the remaining tightness and wheezing he was down to a 1. After another couple of rounds he remained a 1, but at this point he said he felt good and was ready to begin exercising.
He also explained our results by saying that the asthma flare up was not that bad to begin with. Out of pure curiosity I asked him based on his past experience, "When you are at a 5 and do not take your inhaler will the problem usually go down to a 1 within a couple of minutes?" He looked at me with a puzzled face and said, "No, that usually never happens."
Knowing that his beliefs about medicine were being challenged in a major way, I wanted to just leave things at that for the time being.
We then proceeded with the exercise program and had a great session!
