Hi Everyone,
Here's a tribute to how EFT's emotional results are often long-lasting. A thank you to Jane Beard for submitting it.
Hugs, Gary
I first saw a client I'll call "Ben" 24 months ago, for anxiety related to public speaking. Ben is a trial lawyer, and quite brilliant on many levels. But he always managed to sit second chair, or – when he was the lead attorney – to have his second chair deliver the trial open and close. He would use Beta blockers when there was no choice but to do the job himself. He did not experience anxiety when examining witnesses -- only when he was required to speak for an extended time, with the jury's attention focused on him. He knew the situation was holding him back in his career and said he was so desperate, he was “willing to try anything.”
What we tried was EFT. We worked three sessions to really clear the core issues, using the Choices Method. Ben had been the only child of older parents, and felt intense responsibility for them. His mother was agoraphobic, but struggled to attend Ben’s school events anyway. Ben’s father routinely would tell him, “You are killing your mother” following every school play and debate team performance. Clearing his connections to the idea that talking in public was dangerous for his mother, and that talking in public could harm the person /client to whom he felt responsible, did the trick.
Recently I ran into Ben at a community event - he was campaigning for a seat on the local City Council. When he saw me, he literally gasped. “I know you! You helped me years ago when I couldn’t form a sentence in public, except to write it down for someone else to speak! I’d forgotten all about that!” I reminded him that it was “only” two years ago that we had worked together. “It seems like years ago. It seems like another lifetime ago,” he said.
So if people have questions about whether results are long-lasting, they have only to remember Ben holding forth at this event!
