Chasing the pain - a creative approach
Hi Everyone,
Margaret Condy used a unique form of the "Chasing the pain" technique (first described in our Steps Toward Becoming The Ultimate Therapist DVD series) to completely eliminate her client's migraine headache. Please note how the pain shifts as each round of EFT is applied. Each such shift, of course, is a sign of progress.
Hugs, Gary
Hi Gary,
I gave a free information session about EFT a while ago, to interest people in taking a full-day workshop. A few days later, before the workshop took place, "Ed," one of the people who had signed up, called on a Sunday evening to ask if he could bring a friend, "Betsy," over to see me right away, because she was suffering from a bad migraine headache.
When they arrived it was obvious that Betsy was in a great deal of pain. Once they were settled in my healing room with the lights down low, Betsy told me that she had taken some medication, which had lessened her pain somewhat. But her headache was still very bad. On a scale of 0-10, it was nearly a 10.
Betsy said that she's been getting migraines for years. She takes medication if necessary and, of course, avoids the usual migraine triggers (caffeine, chocolate, etc.) But she still gets migraines a lot--often as frequently as one every day. When I asked her if she knows what brings them on, one thing she said was stress.
After explaining to Betsy what we were going to do and demonstrating the tapping points, I told her that she didn't need to tap; she could just touch each point and take breathe slowly if it felt more comfortable. That's what she chose to do throughout the session.
We dealt with the pain first. I started by having her tap (touch, actually) on "Even though I have this migraine pain, I choose to be relaxed and comfortable." Within a couple of rounds her pain had already dropped down to about 7.
Then I got more specific, and asked her where she felt the pain the most. When she said she had a "sharp eye pain," I had her do a round using the words "Even though I have this sharp eye pain, I deeply and completely accept myself." The eye pain went from 6 to 3, at which point Betsy said it wasn't a sharp pain anymore, but just a twinge. So we tapped on "this eye twinge," and it dropped right down to zero.
By this point, all that was left was some neck discomfort, so we tapped on that and got it from 6 to 2.
