Acute leg pain and two rashes disappear after using EFT to "Chase the Pain"

Hi Everyone,

Since we find that physical ailments are often linked to emotional causes, it is no surprise that we can "chase the pain" by using EFT for physical things (pain and rashes in this case) and observing how the pain shifts in the body. Dave Abel from the UK shows how this method works and how a core emotional issue shows up in the process.

Hugs, Gary

Jennifer was playing golf with her husband.  She suddenly (and for no apparent reason) experienced a sharp pain behind her knee extending to her calf.  She returned to the clubhouse in pain.  Paracetamol helped to relieve the pain, but only for a few hours.  By the same evening Jennifer had a rash on her upper chest and her forehead. Two days later Jennifer saw her doctor.  He prescribed an antihistamine and a stronger pain killer.

One week later the pain was still acute and both rashes were still prevalent.  Stronger pain killers were prescribed, offering temporary relief.  Jennifer was now confined to home as it was too painful for her to walk.  After five weeks Jennifer was still in pain.  Neither rash would respond to medical compounds prescribed.

Jennifer came to me and we immediately tapped into the pain in her knee – ignoring the rashes.  Even though I have this acute pain behind my knee…  Her level of intensity for the pain was off the scale and reduced to 7 out of 10 quite quickly, but seemed to get stuck at 7.  Persistent tapping did not lower the level of pain.  When asked whether she was experiencing any other feelings in her body she said some of the pain had moved to the front of the calf.

Even though I am now experiencing some pain at the front of my calf, pain at the rear of my knee and the rear of my calf…  The pain at the front of the calf disappeared within 30 seconds and the level of intensity reduced to 5 out of 10 at the back of the leg.  We continued tapping with the setup statement focusing on the rear of the leg.

She said her lips had a strange sensation, not pain but itching and we changed the setup yet again to incorporate this and the level of intensity in the lips reduced to zero quickly.  The pain was quickly reduced to an ache in the calf.  We paused and discussed EFT for about 10 minutes, during which time the pain level in the back of the knee increased.

As we tapped into the pain I asked whether there was any other sensation or feeling elsewhere in her body.  Now Jennifer was experiencing a pain in the back of the neck (the pain in her calf was zero).  The level of intensity of the pain in her neck was 10 out of 10.

We were clearly chasing the pain and the three areas of pain proved to be significant.  As we tapped into the ‘pain in the neck’ Jennifer became extremely emotional.  I asked, “Who is the biggest pain in your neck right now, Jennifer?”  EFT was about to expose the core issue in less than one hour’s consultation.  She responded that it was her daughter!

Jennifer is in her late sixties, married and trying to enjoy retirement.  Her daughter is 39, unmarried, living at home with Jennifer and her husband.  Five weeks earlier, her daughter broke the news to her parents that she was pregnant.  The following day Jennifer experienced the pain in her knee and developed both rashes.  How's that for an emotional response?

We continued chasing the pain and tying up the loose ends.  Jennifer felt ashamed because she did not know how to break the news to her younger sisters.  She had not been able to voice her feelings, and those emotions had been truly suppressed for five weeks.  I am sure the sensation she experienced in her lips was the inability to voice her feelings.  We tapped into this.

Even though I am fearful of contacting my sisters, not knowing how they will react to me…  Her level of intensity about this fear reduced to zero quickly.

Regarding the pain in her knee and calf - Jennifer could not see the way forward.  She was physically stuck not knowing which way to turn.  The thought of a newborn baby in their home in their advanced years was too much to bear.  The following day Jennifer was totally pain free.  Although both rashes had disappeared, they left dry skin which took a couple of days to clear.

Jennifer's fears of her sisters’ reactions were unfounded.  She phoned them both and they were supportive.  Her daughter has found housing for herself and the baby.  Jennifer has not experienced any re-occurrence of the pain or rash.

Very best regards,

Dave Abel (UK)
