Hi Everyone,

Those suffering from phantom limb pain should find this article by Lynne Donnelly quite useful.

Hi Gary,

I have been using EFT for about seven years with lots of great results and stories, but one client stands out.  "Teddi" had been coming to see me as a CranioSacral therapist and bodyworker for several years.  Her right lower leg had been amputated a few years before following a motor vehicle accident, and consequently her body needed frequent work as it compensated for this loss and the heavy prosthetic she wore.

As I worked on her body, she usually found relief from some of the pain, both in her body and in her phantom limb.  As you may know, phantom limb pain -- pain or discomfort "felt" in the missing limb -- can be frustrating and excruciating, even more so because there is no limb to massage or treat.

It is real pain caused by damage to the nerves that no longer end in the limb.  I often worked energetically on the missing limb, which usually reduced Teddi's phantom pain significantly for a time.  We had also done EFT sessions on the physical and emotional trauma from the accident, which she found more helpful than three years of grief therapy.

One day while I was doing bodywork on her, she grimaced and said she had a cramp in the bottom of her missing foot.  Knowing from my acupressure training that the beginning of the Kidney meridian is on the bottom of the foot and our Collarbone point is on that meridian, I tapped on her Collarbone point and the cramping immediately subsided, much to her surprise!  A later pain on the outside of her missing calf corresponded to her Stomach meridian so we tapped under her eye, bringing relief again.

Teddi quickly became a believer in using EFT in this way!  I sent her home with an acupressure chart so she could identify which meridian to tap on depending on where her pain was and noted which EFT points corresponded to each meridian.  She is now a committed and daily tapper.

GC COMMENT: Alternatively, you could just tap on all the EFT points. That takes less time than looking it up on a chart.

LYNN CONTINUES: I haven't seen this application of EFT before in your newsletters, but EFT is a powerful and drug-free treatment for phantom limb pain.

GC COMMENT: Other articles on this topic can be found by putting the term - phantom limb - in our onsite search engine.
