Hi Everyone,
Tim Watts, a performance coach from the UK, does surrogate EFT via text messaging for his client. The result includes both physical ailments and performance issues.
Hugs, Gary
Hi Gary,
I really wanted to share this case of surrogate tapping I did with a professional tennis player that I work with. I am blown away with how effective surrogate tapping really is, and now I incorporate it into each client’s personal development program. We’ll call my client Dave.
Dave had sent me a text message on my phone the morning he was due to play a match in Paris. He was just checking in, letting me know what blocks were coming up in his head and thoughts about the upcoming match. It read, “Start in Paris today, still have a little hip flexor and glute tightness going on, probably need a few days off which I haven’t had, playing well though.” I replied, “Wait there” (I’m based in London).
The way I practice surrogate tapping is to fully relax, close my eyes, and imagine my client in front of me clearly. I wait until I have a very clear image of them sitting in front of me before I ask them questions. With my eyes closed I ask them (if I already know the presenting problem) for a level of intensity.
I asked him on a scale of 0-10 how painful and tight his hip was. He said it was about 4 out of 10. I then start physically tapping on my karate chop point:
Even though I have this hip tightness feeling (I then paused, and imagined Dave tapping his karate chop point, and repeating the first part of the Setup Phrase as in regular EFT sessions) ...I deeply and completely love and accept myself. (I then paused and imagined Dave tapping the remaining part of the Setup Phrase).
I did this 3 times, and continued tapping a reminder phrase onto all the points using the full EFT Basic Recipe, visualizing him following me. I always wait until I have a clear image of the client copying me. I even included the eye roll and 9-Gamut point into the sequence, seeing him roll his eyes.
GC COMMENT: Surrogate tapping is done in many ways and not everyone includes the step of imagining the client tapping. This is a personal preference.
TIM CONTINUES: I did this sequence of tapping 3 times, and asked him, through visualizing, what his level of intensity was. The reply I received was a broad grin, and a ZERO. He was laughing in the visual I had. I then sent a message asking how it was now and he replied that it was better. I then sent a message asking him how he would like to play and his response was, “To play injury/pain free, move quickly and lightly. No choking in tiebreaker.” (which was a presenting problem of his for some time)
I went back to the same set up as before, visualizing him before me and asking him questions about how he wanted to play. I started tapping and visualized him doing so too.
Even though I’m scared of choking again…
Even though I’m worried about screwing it all up again…
Then on each of the points I tapped and imagined him copying me doing 5 or 6 rounds using phrases such as:
I hate tiebreakers
This fear of choking
Fear of screwing up (other expletives were used here)
Fear of success
Fear of failure
Fear of injury
Fear of being in pain
Fear of losing
Fear of winning
As you can see these are fairly general reminder phrases, at the time I was using further variations of them, I just can’t recall them for the purpose of this article. I then tapped on the points and used various choice statements, taken from message, such as:
I choose to move quickly and lightly
I choose to feel confident in the tiebreaker
I choose to believe the results will come
I choose to move faster than ever before
I choose to let go of the fear and bound confidently forward
I choose to smash these limiting beliefs and take charge of the match
I sent a message back to him letting him know I had just tapped for him. He is aware of surrogate tapping, as we have used it before on financial blocks. I received no reply until after the match, “Won today! Played well, was a tough match – getting a little tired at the end but moved well.”
He and I were both pleased, and I must say I did a little punch in the air when I received the last message. As I’m English, I didn’t want to go too crazy. There is more work to be done on his mental performance, and we both feel that the surrogate tapping works for him very effectively. He returns from a break soon, where we will continue our sessions.
