EFT engages inner child to relieve indigestion (dyspepsia)

This article by Alan Morison of the UK points to the value of "being a child again" as we progress through the healing process. During a self-applied EFT session he got in touch with his inner child and the result was healing on several fronts, including relief from long standing indigestion.

Hi Gary

Like many I have been aware of the concept of the inner child but had not paid too much attention to it as it did not seem too important, in fact it didn't seem important at all and remained just that - a concept .... until just a few days ago when things changed dramatically.

Over the years I have had an on-off relationship with my digestive tract, nothing any doctors could detect but always lurking there with periods of dyspepsia which would come and go. I would try to link it with the stresses of my teaching job but nothing would come to mind. Even when I started doing EFT some time ago nothing would present itself for tapping on. When I retired early, I thought that things would improve but it was not to be the case, so it clearly was not linked to stress - or so I thought.

My dyspepsia slowly increased despite being removed from the tensions, frustrations and often aggression of the school environment and I found myself grabbing more regularly for the antacid tablets, thinking finally a few days ago that there must be something deeper than just indigestion. Now I had tried tapping for the problem some time ago but, although I got some relief, I never really felt I had got to the bottom of it all and so it went on until I finally decided to do some decisive tapping.

Examining my feelings it came as a surprise to find I had a hint of reluctance to accept responsibility. Over the years I have gladly accepted whatever responsibilities came my way without any problems, so I found it somewhat strange that these feelings were coming up at an intensity level of 6. OK I thought, let's just tap on it anyway and just do it. I reframed as I went along, including the things I have put off or avoided doing immediately, finishing with some choices about being positive about accepting responsibility.

The intensity level dropped to 1 but strangely I still felt a certain heaviness over me. I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and thought, 'You're not smiling yet, what's up?' With that an image flashed up of little me aged about 6 or 7, maybe 8, playing in a sandpit totally involved to the exclusion of everything else and happy as can be with not a care in the world. What a glorious feeling! It descended right through me and lifted me completely out of the heaviness I was feeling. It was so wonderful being that child again for a few moments, completely carefree without any responsibilities and it made me realise it was that feeling I was missing. And I grinned from ear to ear at myself in the mirror as it lifted.

Many adults can clown around and can relax being funny and silly and I can do that with the best of them, but still every now and again we can get a bit heavy and forget the little boy or girl inside who is waiting there for us with extended hand imploring us to just come and play. If you haven't been in touch with your inner child for a long time or at all, don't be surprised if you meet a little person with his or her back turned to you because you have ignored him/ her for so long. A little bit of gentle persuasion along with a heartfelt apology will do the trick and s/he will soon leap into your arms for a rehabilitating cuddle.

And if things do get a little heavy again, take the time, if even for a few seconds in the middle of the board meeting, to sit down with your inner child and feel again what it was like to play absorbed in the sandpit or with your favourite Barbie or in whatever scene reminds you of your carefree childhood days. If there are those of you who due to circumstances have sadly never experienced those carefree days, your inner child will guide you lovingly into a chosen scene of your imagination where you can regain what you thought you would never be able to have. This is our inner sanctuary where we can rest totally free and be loved without limit or condition.

And what about my dyspepsia? I felt a complete relaxation in my stomach area when I linked up again with my inner child and the tightness I had felt disappeared. Generally it has taken my system a couple of days to right itself again but the indigestion has gone and I now feel fine. Also the tiredness I had experienced has lifted as my energy has returned.

If you want to rediscover your inner child, enjoy the trip and have a great time.

Sincerely,

Alan Morison
