LETTER: Dear Gary, A little discovery yesterday: I was working with a client who suffered a lot when he experienced contempt from other people towards him. Applying a number of rounds of EFT did not change much in the experience of the discomfort. It stayed with a SUD of about 4-5. I then changed the focus toward the client contempting other people, from the set-up: I deeply accept myself, even when I contempt others. This immediately resolved the discomfort after three rounds! GC RESPONSE: Very nice work! It shows what a little creative detective work can do. It is tempting for the therapist to throw up their hands in these circumstances and blame their apparent lack of progress on toxins or some other culprit. Almost always, that is not the case. The answer usually lies somewhere else.

You may recall a previous case on this email list which dealt with Sherry's headache. She was blaming it all on a work circumstance which appeared to be "doing it to her." Upon investigation, I suggested that she was projecting all of her internal grievances on the situation, not vice-versa. Nothing was doing it to her. It was all coming from within. It was as though the work circumstances were serving as a mirror and reflecting back her own projections. Just as you turned your client toward addressing his internal contempt for others so we dealt with Sherry's internal grievances. This turned out to be correct in both cases and a valuable example for us all. Your client's contempt issue subsided as did Sherry's headache.

In my experience, projection is widespread and needs to take a prominent place within our thinking. In spiritual circles this notion is commonplace. Many would argue that all of our life's experiences are but the outer projection of our inner thoughts.

Hugs, Gary
