Hi Everyone,

Stewart Robertson from the UK shares a useful idea for delivering EFT when clients dissociate. I think the idea has merit even if clients don't dissociate.

Many folks  who have experienced a lot of trauma, have stored many of their internal images and memories in a dissociated manner.  In other words, in their mind’s eye they see the event as happening to someone else, and not to them.  This is especially so when there has been extended or repeated trauma over time.  Unfortunately this can even apply to happy memories.

I’m a big fan of tapping on physical-ised feelings and emotions.  While working through some issues of my own, I became aware of an important distinction in what we’re focusing on, as we tap round the points with the reminder phrase.  I noticed that as I was tapping around the points, repeating, “this pain in my leg”, in my mind’s eye I had a picture of a leg – (maybe someone else’s?) – rather than the feeling in MY leg.

When I consciously and deliberately changed the internal images I had, from externally seen, to internally felt, EFT had immediate results.

So, the next time you come across a hurdle tapping with a heavily dissociated client, along with emphasizing or yelling the setup, try asking your client this question.  Are you *seeing* that in a picture of a [head, foot, leg] in your mind’s eye, or are you *feeling* it inside your own body?

This will help establish if the person is relating to the issue in an associated or dissociated way.  Directing them to focus specifically on the internal feelings whilst tapping could enhance results markedly.  It may seem like a small aspect in the overall delivery, but the effects can be profound.

And once enough of these negative, dissociated issues are cleared with EFT, it will eventually be "safe" for the unconscious to begin to feel memories in an associated fashion again, and begin to truly enjoy happy memories and feelings once more.

With hugs,

Stewart
