Hi Everyone,

Andrea Fultz from Germany is a singing coach who uses EFT with great success. She gives us a detailed example, including much of her EFT language, so we can study her approach. She says, "During the exercises, Nina was stunned and said: “I feel like I have never sung before. This feeling in my voice is completely new and freer than I have ever felt it before.”"

Hugs, Gary

Hi Gary,

Nina came into my studio in Munich for her first lesson with me. Right at the beginning she said that she was very nervous and afraid that her body was going to shake again when starting to sing. (She had been taking singing lessons for one year now and had been having these same “shaking” experiences over and over again.) She said that she would also start to cry very often when using her voice singing a song, and she wouldn’t know how to deal with it. At the same time, she knew that it was her heart’s desire to sing.

So, before starting vocalizing her, I showed her the EFT sequence and we applied it to her acute fear of singing, that already was at a 10 on a scale of 0 to 10 just talking about it. After one round of tapping for her fear, her arms and legs started feeling numb, the numbness being at an 8 out of 10. So we tapped:

Even though I am so afraid of singing, and all this fear shows up now in my numb arms and hands, keeping me from singing strongly…

Even though I am so afraid that I will shake again and I won’t be able to sing freely, and all this fear sits in my arms and legs…

Even though I know this fear very well, it now shows up in my arms and legs, and I have a hard time letting it go…

I used reminder phrases like:

I am so afraid,

I will shake again,

I’m afraid I won’t sing freely,

It will happen again,

I feel out of control,

My arms and legs are numb of fear,

I have no strength in my arms and legs,

I feel so weak,

I feel so afraid of showing myself,

This fear…

After tapping for two rounds, her legs and arms were at a 3 out of 10, but now an underlying issue came up: her throat felt like “someone was choking her with a cord”. So we tapped:

Even though my hands and legs still feel numb, and I feel like someone is choking me and won’t let me use my voice freely…

In the middle of this round she said: “It’s my father! When I grew up, he wouldn’t let me say my opinion, I feel like he’s choking me and my whole life! Now, all this sadness comes up.” Her sadness was at an 8 out of 10.  So we tapped:

Even though I feel this sadness about my father not letting me express myself freely, shutting me and my voice down, and it still shows in my singing voice…

Even tough it seems too dangerous to use my voice freely, I might be choked, and I feel so sad about it…

Even though, this old fear of my father and sadness are choking my life, my singing voice and true expression of myself, I want to forgive myself for carrying these emotions with me for so many years, and I want to forgive anyone involved in this sadness.

Reminder phrases:

All this sadness,

I was shut down,

My father didn’t allow my voice and opinion,

So I didn’t allow myself to speak openly,

That was a long time ago,

And it’s still in my voice,

If I sing freely, I might be choked,

I feel choked,

I feel my whole life suffocates,

It got out of hand,

This sadness,

It sits in my throat.

As I saw her face clearing up and I intuitively knew her level of intensity had gone down we tapped:

This remaining sadness,

It shuts down my voice,

But I know that I have so much to say, sing and give,

I know that I have a lovely and strong voice,

Still there’s a part of me that is afraid and too sad to show and express itself, but I feel this part of me that needs to show itself freely,

However, I still feel this sadness choking me and my voice,

How great would it be to let go of this sadness?

It’s everyone’s birthright to express themselves openly

After a few rounds of tapping, the numbness in her arms and legs was gone. Her face had cleared up immensely. There was still a bit of sadness in her throat, at a 2 out of 10, she now felt like she was saying good-bye to this sadness in her throat. So we tapped:

Even though there is still a bit of sadness in my throat about my father forbidding me to express myself freely and openly, I deeply and completely accept myself and I now choose to be able to use my voice with confidence and without being afraid of the consequences.

Even though I still carry some sadness in my throat, I am saying good-bye to it now, and I know in my heart, that it is for the highest benefit of all, if I sing freely and openly from my heart.

Even though I have been carrying this sadness in my voice for such a long time, I want to thank it, I’m sure in some way it protected me then, but I don’t need this protection anymore now. I am free to sing and express myself, and I know that this is for the highest good of all.

She smiled and I could see the huge relief on her face. She said: “I feel completely fine now. Let’s sing something. Something new!” Now, that was really beautiful to hear.

GC COMMENT: This is a first class example of getting to a Specific Event and being thorough with it.  I might suggest even further testing to go even further and create a higher likelihood that the improvement would be permanent.  See Testing Your EFT Tapping Work - The Triad and for up to date info on handling Specific Events see Uncovering Specific Events - An Essential Concept Within the EFT Tapping Process.

So, I vocalized her and in the vocal warm ups, I would encourage her to use her voice freely, to sing these exercises as if she had something important to say, to state her opinion with her voice, even if it just was a “gee, gee, gee” or “goo, goo, goo”. I was using the information that I had gotten through our EFT session and integrated it in the technical exercises. This approach helped her immensely to execute the voice exercises in a balanced, confident and strong way. During the exercises, Nina was stunned and said: “I feel like I have never sung before. This feeling in my voice is completely new and freer than I have ever felt it before.”

Then we worked on a song, she sang a blues song, and sounded wonderful. In the technical/ musical instructions that I gave her, I made sure to always include the emotional “equivalent” in her voice, such as to “show yourself”, “make a point here”, “use your chest register (lower register) as if you have something essential and loving to say” etc. Again she mentioned, that this was a truly new feeling and that she enjoyed singing a lot. There was no sign of shaking or fear. She thanked me and we set the next appointment.

I am sure that we wouldn’t have gotten this far without EFT! And she didn’t only improve her voice but her overall well being and view of herself in the world. For me as the teacher, working in such a deep way thanks to EFT is so beneficial.

I love my work!

Andrea Fultz
