A 6 year old was brought to our agency by his mother because he repeatedly asked her if what he was touching was poison. After the second session with him I taught him the tapping technique. Then I asked if he would like to test it by touching my boots. He had a slight hesitation and touched my boots on the toe so he was touching where I walked on them. I asked him if that bothered him and he told me no. That was over a month ago. I was concerned and curious so I called his mom. He had told her what we had done. I laughed and told her I was concerned that she might think it strange and that was why they had not come back. Either that--or it stopped the behavior. She reported that since that session he has not asked about everything being poison so she didn't really think he needed to come back unless the behavior restarted.

GC COMMENT: herein lies the subtle power of these procedures. The child no longer thinks about things being poison. No big deal. No bells and whistles. The problem just fades. Often it seems like there was never a problem in the first place].

The second success was an 11 year old girl who came to see me for other reasons but during the course of our getting to know each other she told me about her fear of spiders--that when she saw one she would run screaming from the room and make a fool of herself. We went through the technique until when she thought about a spider she was about a 1 or 2. I saw her after about a week and she had two incidents where her fear was tested.

One was when she went on a field trip to see a movie about the Amazon River. In it there was a picture of a large spider which would really look big because it was on one of those large screens where it looks like you are in the picture.

She told me she did not react at all. The next day or two she was sitting in a chair at home when she saw a spider crawling toward her. I asked her what she did. She said, "I squashed it with my shoe." So she was very pleased about the results she has gotten.

Have you had any experience using this technique with someone who has had shock treatments and has memory problems?

GC COMMENT: No, but as is repeatedly stated in the EFT Course--Try it on Everything!!--it's certainly worth a try.

Thanks for this technique. I use it frequently for myself and I experience a reduction in stress, anxiety and fear.
