Mom uses EFT to help her fearful son ride a bike

Hi Everyone,

Mary Spielman gives us a very practical use of EFT that anyone with "pre-bicycle children" will find useful. Note that, before this EFT session, Mary had tried unsuccessfully for 5 years to get her son to ride a bike. However, after a 45 minute session she says, "After 3 tries he was off and biking and asked if he could bike around the neighborhood by himself.  This whole process took 45 minutes.  This may seem like a minor issue but it was huge for a ten year old boy and his mom."

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

I am responding to your request for EFT and children.  I am an Occupational Therapist who specializes in the treatment of headaches and chronic pain and learned about your wonderful technique from Tom Ockler a physical therapist  I have a 10 year old son, Joe who has a lot of fears (I was very fearful I was going to miscarry him when I was pregnant).

I had been trying for 5 years to teach my son how to ride a bike with no success.  I knew once Joe learned to ride a bike he would love it.  I was not looking forward to the drama (anger frustration, tears) from the previous year's attempt.  This year I knew I had something to help Joe (and me) get over the fear - EFT.

When Joe first tried riding the bike he wanted to do it by himself.  After five minutes he came in and asked for my help.  I asked him if I could try EFT. He did not want to do the tapping himself but he let me tap his points.  We simply started with:

Even though I'm afraid to ride my bike… I did not do the 0-10 scale but merely asked if Joe felt ready to try the bike.  We did 2 complete rounds including using the gamut point.

I had Joe ride his bike on grass down a slight incline, by the third try he was keeping his balance and by the 5-6 try I could tell he was establishing a motor plan for riding.  The next step was to get him on black top/ driveway because the grass was challenging to ride on.  Joe did not want to try on the driveway so we did another round of EFT:

Even though I 'm afraid to ride my bike on the driveway…

After 3 tries he was off and biking and asked if he could bike around the neighborhood by himself.  This whole process took 45 minutes.  This may seem like a minor issue but it was huge for a ten year old boy and his mom.

Sincerely,

Mary Spielman
