Thumb pain disappears along with relationship issues

Carol Solomon, PhD gives us clear evidence of the link between our emotional issues and our physical pains. Please note how her client's painful thumb refused to improve UNTIL important relationship (emotional) issues were resolved.

By Carol Solomon, PhD

Dear Gary,

I recently saw a client who scheduled a session to work on "relationship issues". This woman was a successful and attractive doctor, yet she had been very hurt in her relationships and felt she was attracting the wrong people.

When she faxed the informed consent to me, she wrote on the fax that she had a pain in her thumb for the past 3 months. She thought it had an emotional cause, but she wasn't sure.

We started directly with the thumb pain, which to her was a red, flame-shaped pain:

Even though I have this red, flame-shaped pain in my thumb, I deeply and completely accept myself.

Even though my thumb hurts when I write and when I cut, I deeply and completely accept myself.

Even though I have this pain in my thumb, I choose to release the pain now.

Even with several rounds, this pain did not abate. So we went on to the relationship issues. We worked on the multiple aspects that she was feeling about her relationships - sadness, loss, hurt, frustration, loneliness and self-blame.

Even though I have this sadness about my relationships, I deeply and completely accept myself.

Even though I have had so many losses, I deeply love and accept myself now.

Even though I have been attracting the wrong people; I've been very hurt, and I am tired of it, I choose to know that I can change this pattern now.

Even though I feel lonely and frustrated, I deeply and completely accept myself.

Even though I have worked so hard in my relationships, and it has been such a struggle, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself.

Even though I blame myself, and I don't think I am good enough, I deeply and completely love and accept myself now.

Even though I feel like I am the only person without a relationship, I choose to attract the right person now.

Even though I am afraid that I won't measure up, I choose to believe in myself now.

The reminder phrases (tapping around the body) included these:

This sadness
I've had so many losses
I'm tired of it
This frustration
This struggle
I've worked so hard
I blame myself
I think I'm not worthy

When we completed the session, this client's feelings of loss and sadness were gone. As we were discussing how she felt, she suddenly said "Carol, I am trying to make my thumb hurt, and I can't!" She was astonished that the pain in her thumb was gone as well.

With love,
Carol Solomon, Ph.D.

P.S. After checking in with this client 30 days after the session, the thumb pain is still completely gone.
