A young boy with cancer successfully taps for the fear of surgery

Hi Everyone,

Deborah Miller uses EFT with children in a Mexican hospital cancer ward. She has many inspirational stories to tell, including this one by young Jesus. Note how Deborah shares a lot of her wording and how the fear of surgery fell dramatically. Did this contribute to his successful surgery? Read this article and judge for yourself.

Hugs, Gary

Jesus is a young boy from the cancer ward in Oaxaca, Mexico, where I teach the kids and parents EFT. I would love to share a beautiful insight he had during an EFT tapping session.

We began tapping together to release his fears of an upcoming biopsy to find out "what he has in his tummy".  He has a tumor in his abdominal area but he doesn't know that. The biopsy was to discover what kind and how extensive it is.

I find the kids I work with are afraid of surgeries in part because they don’t get an explanation of what is going to happen to them before, during, and after the surgery. Yes, they hear that they are going to have a surgery, but understanding the details has helped many children feel more comfortable with the process.

In Jesus’ case, I began by tapping with him on his fears of the surgery and finding out what he had. His fear had a level of intensity of 10 on a scale of 0 to 10.

Even though I’m afraid of the surgery I’m going to have because I don’t know what they’ll find, I love myself.

Even though I’m too big to be afraid, cuz I’m almost 13, it is ok to be a little afraid of what I don’t know or understand. I choose to be ok and get the best treatment ever.

Even though I’m afraid, I’m a great guy.

Reminder phrases:

I’m a great young man even though I have to have this surgery.

I don’t have to be afraid cuz everyone wants to take care of me.

I’ll be ok. I choose to be relaxed and calm.

I choose to wash away my fears with a cascade of water.

I am calm and relaxed.

His level of intensity dropped to a 5 out of 10.  He was still afraid of the upcoming surgery because he didn’t know what was going to happen.

Even though I’m afraid of the surgery because I don’t know what they are going to do to me, I love myself.

Even though I’ve never had a surgery I’ll be ok.

The nurses will wrap up my legs to protect them.

They’ll put a surgical cap and gown on me to make sure everything stays clean.

They’ll put me on a cart and roll me down to the surgical ward.

They do some other preparations of my body to make sure it is all clean.

While they do that I’ll talk to my body about healing and getting better.

They’ll put a mask over my face with an anesthesia to put me to sleep.

I won’t have to do anything but sleep.

I’ll sleep and be ok because I know they’ll take care of me.

I trust that the doctors and nurses will do the best they can.

They want me to get well too.

The doctor will look at what I have in my tummy so I can receive the best treatment.

After they finish, they’ll keep me in a special room until I wake up and they know I’m ok.

Then they’ll bring me back to my room.

At this point his fear of the surgery was zero even when we talked about all the possible steps. Even if we didn’t know everything that was going to happen he could trust that he would be ok and didn’t have to be afraid. I left him with a big smile on his face and clarity in his eyes that showed he wasn’t feeling any fear.

The following day he had his surgery. When I came in he was in his bed and gave me a smile and a big thumbs up. He said it went just like I said. It was obvious that knowing some of what would happen helped him realize that all of it was normal for a surgery.

We decided to tap some more about “what was in his tummy.” I asked him to close his eyes and “look” at what was in his tummy and describe it to me. He said there were little ugly balls. They were bad. They didn’t mean to be bad.

Even though I have these ugly little balls in my tummy, I’m a great kid.

Even though these ugly balls don’t want to be bad, I’m a great young man.

Even though I have these ugly little balls in my tummy, I love myself.

Reminder phrases:

The ugly little balls are bad but don’t want to be.

The ugly little balls don’t want to hurt me.

The ugly little balls probably are sad because they were bad.

I think I’ll tell them that I understand they didn’t mean it.

I tell them that I understand and forgive them.

I see they want to get better too.

After tapping, he told me that the ugly balls didn’t feel bad anymore. I could see the relief on his face.

He told me that people who are sad and depressed feel ugly inside but it isn't the truth. They are beautiful. As he said it tears welled up in his eyes as he realized it was true for himself too. (Remember he has a tumor in his abdomen) I asked who told him this and he said no one, he just knew it. Again tears welled up in his eyes. I told him he is a wise man.

Doing EFT to release his fear of the surgery changed his experience of having a biopsy. Even more so, I enjoy the insights that come as one does EFT, even if you are a young boy who just turned 13. Jesus is a wise young man indeed.
