Hi Everyone,

Alan Morison of the UK provides two cases where musician's on-stage fears were traced back to traumatic episodes. Re-visiting such specific events is often the key to having EFT work efficiently.

Hugs, Gary

Hi Gary

The power of EFT! Here are two cases and testimonials from musicians who had a debilitating performance block for a number of years. Both are happy to make a public statement about their blocks and how they got over them.

In Stella's case, she was forced into playing her flute as a young girl in front of an adult audience. She was totally unprepared for it and was as a result traumatised by her experience. The setup dealt with her feelings when she was told she was to play.

Even though I froze on the spot with fear because I hadn't prepared for it and it really was so unfair to be told to play like that...

While tapping the points: froze with fear ... hadn't prepared ... felt it was so unfair ... facing these adults ... felt they were judging me.

Subsequent rounds (2) dealt with the feelings as they subsided: remaining fear, still felt it unfair etc. The session took only a matter of a few minutes and Stella knew when she had arrived at a zero as her feelings had changed so much.

Testing by revisiting the scene in her imagination using the Movie Technique brought up no reaction. Now she saw the scene from a distance as if she was not connected to it. I often say to clients at the end of a session that they now have the opportunity to re-write their history, not factually of course but energetically and they might now feel able to choose a different outcome to the troublesome event they experienced before. The Movie Technique helps them do that and they find they can see a positive outcome instead of the old negative one - and it feels good! Stella could now see herself at ease and playing with confidence.

Here's what she has to say:

"I have been an amateur musician for numerous years and during that time I often found myself playing in what I perceived as very stressful situations.

I found solo playing particularly worrying and often completely avoided being in that situation. I could still envisage the first time I was forced to play as a nervous teenager and the incident remained etched in my memory.

EFT has completely changed my approach to playing. It has removed the original fear, given me confidence and the power to relax. If I now recall that first solo I feel totally removed from the situation, calm and relaxed.

Tapping has helped me and will continue to help me in my amateur music making."

Emily was attending a conference for music teachers and stopped at my EFT table. When she noticed Stella's testimonial (above) she asked if EFT could help her too. I explained the process and it didn't take her long to decide on some tapping there and then in that busy conference hall. Her story is similar to Stella's in that she had a horrendous childhood experience playing the violin at a recital.

This is what happened. While playing at a music festival recital she was so nervous standing in front of an audience that she began her piece on the wrong string - and wasn't aware of the mistake until her accompanist looked round with a look of horror on her face. As you will see below that experience shaped her attitude to playing in the years to follow. We started with:

Even though I was so nervous that I didn't even know I was playing on the wrong string and felt such a fool when she looked at me...

While tapping the points: so nervous ... that look on her face ... such a fool ... don't know how I got through it.

I was concerned when I saw tears appear, feeling something deeper had risen to the surface but thankfully that was not the case - quite opposite in fact as her tears were tears of release and happiness. That one round was enough to clear everything from her energy system connected to that event. Again, reviewing the scene with the Movie Technique showed that there was no negative feeling related to the event. She could now see herself confidently playing through the piece and enjoying it. She wrote this to me a few days after the conference:

"I approached an EFT stall at the annual conference for music teachers in Scotland and struck up a conversation with Alan because of a testimonial in their display that rang true for me. I, too, had had a negative experience in my youth playing a solo recital on violin that left me scared and ashamed to play in front of people, even my husband!

Alan explained the technique, and did a quick round of EFT focusing on that painful memory. By the time the process was finished, which only took one minute, I found that my memories of that experience were not emotionally charged like they had been before, but neutral, as if I was an outside observer. Tears of release and joy came in the middle of that exhibition hall, and I haven't felt the same since!

In the days that followed I downloaded the free EFT beginners manual from the Emofree website, and have had similar successes with a fear of heights based on a traumatic experience in the Alps some years back, and even an old knee injury from skiing! I am grateful and amazed at the power of EFT, and hope to share it with everyone I love. Thank you Alan!"
