An in-depth approach for relieving severe neck pain

Theda Foster's client (Denise) had severe neck pain due to an accident for which no relief seemed possible. However, with some persistent tapping and some in-depth questioning, the pain subsided and formerly impossible range of motion was restored. Theda says,"I called Denise about three (3) hours later to check on her and see how she was feeling. She was so excited to tell me that the pain in her neck was a ZERO! The first time she had been pain free since 1980."

I recently had the privilege of teaching Denise to use EFT. She was in a car accident in 1980 and has had severe pain in the neck and limited range of motion since then. Denise worked with many doctors (some suggesting surgery to cut a nerve), chiropractors, and therapists over the years in an attempt to resolve the pain and emotional trauma related to that accident.

Denise was able to move her head to the left fairly well, but unable to move it to the right. I asked her some questions in an effort to help her describe the pain such as:

  • What color is the pain?
  • What shape is the pain?
  • What texture does the pain have?
  • Does the pain have a sound?
  • Is there a temperature to the pain?

And a few other questions (review the questions at the end of this letter). These questions help the client and me to focus very pointedly on the issue. A lot of these questions the client answers as they are talking to you about the pain, some I ask directly, and some are answered as we go through the session. We agreed to focus exclusively on the physical pain for the first round of tapping.

Denise's initial 0-10 intensity was 10+.

We used wording like:

  • Even though I have the pain in my neck, I deeply and completely accept myself.
  • Even though this pain in my neck is purpley-gray, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
  • Even though I have this rectangle of pain below my right ear, I deeply and completely love and accept myself and I now choose to let the pain go.
  • Even though this pain feels more like 10,000, I choose to let it release.

After each round of tapping we would stop and assess the pain and the various descriptions that she had come up with. The first round the pain was still about a 9, but the color had changed to a "soft robin's egg blue", the shape had changed to a small circle - "almost like an egg" and the pain went from being "hot" to "cool and soothing".

We did another round of tapping and her pain went down to a 4, but the really exciting thing for her was that she was able tofreely move her head in both directions. She could move her head to the right so that her chin was parallel to her shoulder for the first time in over 20 years! And her elbow that had been stiff and sore gently relaxed and "popped" and she was able to move it more freely.

Note: We tapped for about an hour on the various aspects of Denise's pain. This was not a "one-minute" wonder, but was still a wonder for Denise.

I called Denise about three (3) hours later to check on her and see how she was feeling. She was so excited to tell me that the pain in her neck was a ZERO! The first time she had been pain free since 1980.

It is truly on honor and privilege to be allowed to teach someone how to access their own healing.
