Client spontaneously recalls important core issue while tapping for Fear of Choking

Hi Everyone,

It's often important to be a detective and search for "core issues" when dealing with stubborn problems. Sometimes, however, the client spontaneously finds it while tapping. Such was the case with Ann Reed's client in this article.

Lola came to me because often when she ate, she had a fear that she would choke or feared that someone else would choke.

We tapped for "even though I'm afraid that I or someone else may choke while eating". I asked her to experience that fear while we were both tapping. During the first round of tapping she exclaimed "Oh My God!" and was greatly shaken when she spontaneously recalled a memory of being at the dinner table as a teenager and feeling all choked up because of a hostile confrontation with her father. She was too shaken and unwilling to tell me the content of the confrontation, so I had her stay in the feeling of being "all choked up" and the memory of the confrontation as I tapped using the affirmations "Even though I'm feeling all choked up, even though I can't even talk about this, even though my father is terribly angry".

I tapped each site alternating saying the affirmation with saying "this father conflict" and "this choked up feeling" as Lola sobbed. After 3 rounds Lola felt her throat release. Her sadness regarding the conflict with her father now at a 0-10 intensity level of 2. We tapped for "this remaining sadness".

That was one year ago. Since then, Lola has been able to enjoy her meals without any fear of choking.
