Hi Everyone,

Here's a great example by Jo Hainsworth of New Zealand of how core issues can automatically show up during an EFT session. She was tapping for an intense fear of using a firefighter's breathing apparatus and says, "As I tapped, all of a sudden the thought popped into my head that I was born with the umbilical cord wrapped several times around my neck.  I had the sensation of being a newborn baby trying desperately to breathe with something around my neck.  I recalled how I can't stand having anything around my throat.  So I did some tapping for the newborn baby..."

I've recently moved into a rural community and heard that the local volunteer fire brigade was short of members able to respond during working hours.  In the past I would never have even considered doing something like this, but over the last 18 months EFT has removed so many of my fears I decided to volunteer to join the fire brigade alongside my partner.  During our first night they started talking about some of the training we would have to do, and as soon as they mentioned breathing apparatus training my heart pounded and I felt quite sick.  I remembered trying to snorkel and freaking out big time.

At that moment I really doubted whether I could go through with the training.  I thought I'd been an idiot not thinking through the ramifications of joining the fire brigade and wished I'd never considered it. As soon as we got home I realised that I needed to do some tapping.

Even though I can't even imagine putting a breathing apparatus on…

Even though I am freaking out just at the thought of putting a breathing apparatus on, it's just like with snorkeling and I don't think I can do this…

Even though I'm terrified of the thought of breathing through one of those things, there's just no way I could do it and I'm not going to be able to go through this…

As I tapped, all of a sudden the thought popped into my head that I was born with the umbilical cord wrapped several times around my neck.  I had the sensation of being a newborn baby trying desperately to breathe with something around my neck.  I recalled how I can't stand having anything around my throat.  So I did some tapping for the newborn baby (I was using Silvia Hartmann's proxy tapping phrasing .

Even though this baby girl can't breathe as she's being born and she's afraid that she's going to die, I deeply and profoundly love, accept and heal this baby girl.

Even though this baby girl has something wrapped tightly around her neck and she's struggling to be able to breath and she's afraid she's going to die, I deeply and profoundly love, accept and heal this baby girl.

Even though this baby girl is afraid she won't be able to breath and she will die…

As I tapped through the phrases and through the sequence of points I cried and cried and all sorts of emotions came up and were released.  I just kept tapping and the emotions flowed out of me and cleared and I came to an amazing peace.

I thought about the training the following week with the fire brigade and was amazingly calm.  I could easily imagine myself doing the training without any problems.  It just seemed routine.  I was interested to think that this may have gone back to my birth trauma, I have already done a lot of tapping on this and healed a chronic illness using EFT . It seems that there was yet another aspect of the birth trauma that I hadn't dealt with and was still causing me to react to situations decades later.

I eagerly awaited the training the following week.  The evening came along and there was none of the usual dread I have when having to do anything new, just a curiosity to see how it would go.  I learnt how to operate the breathing apparatus and I not only put it on myself and got it going, but I walked/ran ½ km in full fire fighting gear, breathing through the apparatus.

There was a brief moment the first time I put the mask on where I felt uncertain. I hadn't understood the instruction and had been unable to turn on the cylinder and was therefore running out of air and not sure how to rectify it. Thus it wasn't surprising I was just a little uncertain!  There was no panic, no anxiety, just a calm dealing with the situation and getting someone to show me what to do.

EFT has given me the freedom of great health after nearly two decades of chronic illness.  Without that freedom I couldn't have even considered undertaking something like fire fighting training.  And now it's enabling me to deal with the issues that come up during the training.  If there's something you'd like to be able to do but are afraid to try, tap.  Be open to the tapping taking you in a direction you would never have suspected (like your birth for example) and you will tap your way to a freedom you would never have thought possible.

With much gratitude to Gary for this amazing tool,

Jo Hainsworth
