Fears And Phobias

EFT for a core fear brings a useful side effect

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

EFT is well known for often producing positive side effects, an example of which is given in this article by Ilana Weiler from Israel. Note, however, that she calls the side effect a "by-product." Same idea.

Hugs, Gary

Hi Gary

I am writing this report because I would like to share something different with our list members.

This time it is not just a case of success that is so common with the use of EFT, but something I call a by-product of EFT.  Vera came to see me because she wanted to release tension surrounding a family issue.  She has a long frustrating relationship with her sister-in-law that reflects her relationship with her husband.

She always felt "small" next to her sister-in-law, had many attempts to solve the conflict, and had local relief.  This time she said she felt threatened by her involvement in their life, and the thought that her sister-in-law might interfere with the parents’ decision about money matters.

We started tapping on, Even though I feel so much stress in my chest…  Her level of intensity was 10 on a scale of 0 to 10.  After one round we added, "This metal feeling in my chest." and at the end of that round another aspect appeared - Vera felt fear.  She said, “I feel frightened, I have to protect myself."

We tapped for that and I asked whether she remembered other times that she felt this fear.  As we continued tapping she said, “Yes, I remember I felt the same about my father.  He died 2 years ago from a heart attack.  He never really cared for himself.  He ignored the doctors, he wasn’t afraid of anything and I was very worried about him.”

So we tapped, Even though I felt the same fear about my father, he was never afraid of his bad physical condition...  Then I suggested we tap, My father was never afraid, or worried about himself, and therefore, never protected himself.  I have to protect myself, I have to be frightened.  While repeating those words and tapping, Vera realized that she "needs" the fear in order to stay alert to protect herself from whatever seemed dangerous in her eyes.

Wow!  She could suddenly make the connection and opened two big eyes, and was ready to tap for, Even though I need the fear to keep me alert, I want to protect myself, I choose to be open to the possibility that I can be cautious without having to experience fear.  We did a few round, using the trio Choices Method (thank you Dr. Patricia Carrington), and when we checked the original level of intensity and symptoms, everything was calm and released.

Due to time limitation, it was a short session, and we knew that it was just for "first-aid" and not enough to deal with the whole issue.  BUT, and here comes the part I called by-product, the next day Vera called me in tears saying, "You have no idea how meaningful that session was for me, and how thankful I am.  The process made me reveal these feelings of worry that I had for my father.  It brought up the deep concern I had for him.  For 2 years since he died I felt guilty for not being worried enough for him, I though I didn’t love him enough.  And yesterday’s session made it so alive, so clear, how much I cared, how much I loved.  This is so important for me; it is a great acknowledgment I gave to myself.”

I was moved deeply, because I’ve known Vera for a long time, and I know how hard it was for her to grieve and separate from her father.  And this is an example of an Emotional Freedom that was experienced in an area that wasn’t directly connected to the issue we were working on - one of the wonders of EFT - this amazing method.  Again, thank you Gary for your contribution to all of us.

Blessing to all of you, and may we all be in good health.

Sincerely Ilana Weiler Israel.
