Tapping during a frightening movie to remove the fear

Jon Harris found himself committed to attend a frightening movie and his fear level about the event was a 10+. Furthermore, he was seated near the front where the frightening screen events were even more "in his face." There is much to learn here from the way he collapsed this issue with EFT.

Dear Gary,

I avoid going to movies that are frightening or filled with mayhem, blood, and gore. When a friend recently asked me to accompany her to see "United 93" I uncharacteristically agreed, only to regret my decision immediately after hanging up the phone.

By the time we reached the theater that evening my regret level was 10+ and my anxiety was up there with it. Walking into the nearly-empty theater I asked my friend, "Where would you like to sit?" Fittingly, her response was, "Down near the front." A new anxiety: how would I be able to slip inconspicuously out of the theater mid way through the film?

I took my seat and began tapping the side of my left hand. I knew that just doing this would decrease my anxiety, but as the movie began I realized that I'd have to dig very deep and do some serious tapping if I were to maintain my composure. Tension on the screen and inside me was mounting fast.

First I tapped around general issues of anxiety related to movies, and then I began seeking childhood memories of scary movies. I knew that the more specific the memories I could ferret out, the greater the chance I wouldn't panic and leave my friend sitting alone in a sea of empty seats. A practical matter: so I wouldn't appear to be a strange individual nervously grabbing at his face, i.e. tapping, I spoke the set up phrases internally and visualized all the tapping except for the unobtrusive tapping on the side of my hand.

EFT came through with flying colors, as usual! Half way through the movie I no longer experienced ANY anxiety. Nothing happening on the screen pressed any emotional buttons although the action was increasingly intense. I've always had lots of success with EFT, but I was truly amazed by the change in me that night, and my attitude regarding movie going has radically altered.

Those familiar with EFT rarely need to spell out what the three initials stand for, but we should remember that the "F" stands for FREEDOM.
