EFT for a fear of surgery

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

Carol Solomon's client needed a hip replacement but avoided it because he was "afraid" for an unknown reason and preferred to limp with pain. Read how Carol got to the bottom of it with one simple question. She concludes her article with, "Gary, this all happened in a 15-minute telephone conversation. The fear was completely gone, and Will scheduled his surgery for the next week. After his recovery period, his gait is perfect and he is pain free. I think he'd still have that limp today if it weren't for EFT!" Please consult physicians on all medical issues.

Hugs, Gary

For as long as I had known my friend, Will, he walked with a limp. He only told me recently that it was from a traumatic bone injury at age 14. He called out of the blue a couple years ago and said that he needed a hip replacement, but he couldn't bring himself to schedule the surgery. He was too afraid.

He knew about EFT and asked if I could help him figure out what was wrong. I could hear the fear in his voice. He didn't know what he was afraid of or what was holding him back, only that he was putting off scheduling the surgery.

Even though I'm scared to have the surgery and I don't know why...

Even though I don't know what I'm afraid of...

I asked him if he'd had any bad experiences with surgery. Did anything come to mind?

He started sobbing. And then it came to him - yes! He had felt traumatized with ether as a kid. He began to describe it "I had a lot of ear problems and I had to have surgery to drain my ears. They put the mask over my face and it felt like I was suffocating. It made me sick on top of that!" He was also afraid of waking up during the surgery (another aspect).

We tapped on all of that:

Even though I felt like I was suffocating...
Even though I got sick from the ether...
Even though I'm afraid of waking up during surgery...

EB: I felt like I was suffocating
SE: And it made me sick
UE: I was scared
UN: I was just a little kid
CH: I'm afraid I could wake up
CB: What if they don't give me enough?
UA: I don't know what's going to happen

Gary, this all happened in a 15-minute telephone conversation. The fear was completely gone, and Will scheduled his surgery for the next week. After his recovery period, his gait is perfect and he is pain free. I think he'd still have that limp today if it weren't for EFT!

With love,

Carol Solomon, Ph.D. MCC, EFTCert-1
