By Michael Valenti, M.D.

Dear Gary,

I really want to share some of my experiences with asthma, vomiting in pregnancy and multiple sclerosis.  I also include one case of a severe depression of ten years because it was a very quick success even though the client could not respond coherently and did not cooperate at all.

Asthma

Here are a few experiences with asthma sufferers which were very successful.  One woman saw me with an asthma attack about six months ago.  She was severely wheezing and short of breath.  She reported she had asthma since she was small.  I asked, “What triggers the asthma?”  “Anything,” she said, “when I am cold, when I eat ice cream, when I am stressed, or when I worry.”  “When did it start?”  “I don’t know.  I always had it,” she replied.

“So what was the first time you remember when it was really bad?”  “Well,” she said, “when I was in school one day and they were all laughing about me.”  So we tapped on the set up: Even though they were all laughing about me in school and I got asthma…” with the reminder, laughing about me and asthma.  It took four rounds, and on a scale of 0 to 10, her intensity level went from 8 to 6 to 2 to 1 - and the asthma was gone.  I asked her to come back if she had anymore wheezing at all.  As far as I know she had no more asthma attacks.

A young man with asthma couldn’t remember any embarrassing situation with his asthma, but reported that it usually followed a cold and cough.  We tapped on Even though I have asthma with every cold…  The asthma stopped within three rounds.  No follow up.

Another young man with asthma couldn’t come up with any clues or triggers.  Since I believe that all psychosomatic problems and especially asthma must be related to a fear, we tapped on, Even though I have this fear of asthma…  After one round the client was breathing freer and after three rounds there was no wheezing at all.  I gave him copies of EFT on a page and a diagram of the tapping points and advised him to tap any time he had any wheezing.  He never came back for more help.

I also found that shoulder - arm pains as well as deep shoulder pains respond much better to:  Even though I have this fear of the shoulder pain… than to Even though I have this pain…

Vomiting in Pregnancy

I tried EFT on three women who were suffering from vomiting in pregnancy.  All young women who complained about almost constant nausea and almost daily vomiting with meals.  After two rounds of: Even though I have this vomiting sickness…. all three felt good immediately; that is without nausea.  Two of them did not return for further treatment, which I assume means that they stayed well.  One lady came back to report that she went home and got sick again after a few days, but got over it with another few rounds of EFT.

Vomiting in pregnancy is often such a serious and debilitating problem that I would like all EFT practitioners and doctors to know about the potentials of EFT and ask them to try it also on the more severe form of Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

Multiple Sclerosis

Once I tried EFT on MS.  A middle-aged German woman who I have known for some time agreed to try EFT one day.  She was feeling especially weak and had some numbness and paralysis in the right leg so that her limping was pronounced.  She told me her story which was very traumatic.  She had been in an extremely abusive relationship for years, physically and more so emotionally, and had been very frightened to leave.  In those years the MS had developed.  We sorted out some of the worst situations and began to tap on:

Even though I have been so traumatized…

Even though I was so scared…

Even though he beat me and abused me so bad…

Even though I thought I couldn’t make it on my own…

Even though there was nobody I could ask for help…

I don’t remember all the details now, but she got better with most aspects and when I met her again in the street about two weeks later she was walking strong and said, “You know, it worked really well, but I can’t do it any more, because I would lose my disability pay.”

Depression

Before I close I would like to mention one case of severe depression which I think is remarkable because the elderly lady in this case hardly understood anything of what I was doing.

An elderly lady was suffering from serious debilitating depression since her favorite son was shot and killed in a robbery in her house ten years previously.  Since then she was depressed and unable to function.

She was crying most days, unable to do anything, and all she would say were words about her son who loved her so much and about how she missed him.  She was hardly responding coherently and I never was sure if she understood what I was saying or not.

I treated her for about an hour for Even though I am so depressed…  Even though I miss him so much…  Even though I am angry with God for doing this to me…  (I think depression is often an anger with God, a resistance to what has happened or to life itself).  Actually when I suggested that she was angry with God, she did respond clearly and said that she would never do that.  But we tapped on it anyway and I felt that it was actually the turning point.

Since I was unsure how she had responded to the EFT and I thought she needed more treatment I taught the daughter to do more EFT with her.  When I met the daughter two weeks later she said, “I didn’t really get to treat her much more.  But mommy is so much better.  She is laughing again and playing with the grandchildren.”

I said, “Well, maybe she should have a little more EFT anyway to get over it completely.”  “Oh, no,” she said, “it’s the grandchildren that got her out of it.  When they came to visit she got so much better.” (Forgetting that the grand children’s visits hadn’t done anything for her mother in ten years.)  So much for the denial of the effects of EFT.

Sincerely yours,

Michael Valenti, MD
