Emphatic language on a core issue paves the way for a natural birth

Hi Everyone,

JoAnn Skywatcher creatively assists her client with birthing fears and other issues. Please note that there is some debate about avoiding certain forms of tapping during pregnancy. See Are there any problems using EFT for pregnancy?

"Suzie" had about one and a half months to go until giving birth. She was having a hard time with her husband, and she had some big issues about birth. It was her first birth and she wanted to have her child at home.

I found that conscious breathing and laughter were the most useful in helping her move energy while using EFT. First, we worked on her relationship with her husband. She couldn't figure out how to clearly tell him her needs, and he couldn't figure out what she wanted telepathically. Her 0-10 intensity came down to about 5 and then she said,

Even though I feel upset because "Joe" doesn't do what I want him to, and I don't tell him what I want him to do. I deeply and completely love and accept myself for not telling him what I want and expect him to do.

Even though I am really pissed off that "Joe" can "never" get it right, I deeply and completely love and accept myself for blaming him.

Even though I just expect "Joe" to know telepathically what I want him to do, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

She cracked up after saying each "Even though," and we both felt the tension drain out of her body.

We alternated reminder phrases like "really angry," and "he can't get it right," with lots of laughter. This sequence quickly brought her intensity down to a zero, so that it was no longer an issue.

Then we dealt with her fear of not being able to have the baby at home (this was her first birth) and of having to go to the hospital. Both of these issues, including her husband not intuitively understanding her needs and of having to go to the hospital, were relatively easy to tap through. When the hour was up, I felt as though there was something deeper. Fortunately, we had some extra time, and she was willing to go for it.

She was saving the biggest issue for last. She was concerned about the baby's health. She had gained a lot of weight (she ended up gaining 50 pounds over the course of the pregnancy), and she already had some health issues prior to getting pregnant. When it got right down to it, she was terrified of something horrible happening at the birth. So we started tapping on her fear, and it was all blaa, blaa, blaa. It was a mental exercise that wasn't working. Her intensity was staying at a 10. She got more worked up as we continued.

I felt as though we needed to do something drastic. I had already talked with Suzie about using colorful language and that with eft it is more effective to use language that we actually use in our own minds. That is why I encourage my clients to change the way I say it if I don't get their language quite right. I often encourage them to cuss, as I've found that it can be extremely helpful to make their affirmations more flowery. So, I tested the waters with...

Even though I am terrified that my baby might be f****ed up, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

I knew that I had nailed it when every time she said "f****ed up baby" she cracked up. She dropped her intensity down to a zero in one round. All terror and fear about birthing disappeared by the end of that session, and did not return.

I also worked her husband "Joe" before the birth. He told me afterwards that the week before the birth he felt as though his wife was having a hard time and taking it out on him. His response to her complaining was to tap. When he remembered to tap, he was OK with her complaining. It was a way he could release emotions before he acted them out. He said that he couldn't even remember specifically where to tap, and just tapped anyway. I'm convinced that intention is what made the difference, intention and tapping through the feelings. He was able to support his wife through that difficult week before birth, as well as during the birth itself, with love and gentle peace.

They were able to have a home birth. When the time came, "Suzie" didn't have any worries about her baby's birth. She was able to tune in to her instincts, and follow her internal instructions. She had people assisting her at the birth and she followed her own flow. She birthed naturally, at home, in only six hours, just the way she had intended. A month later, everyone is doing extremely well.
