Hi Everyone,

Graham Sutcliffe, from New Zealand, gives the details of this case. As he says at the end, "This technique is so liberating for so many people."

A recent client of mine suffered from Tunnel Phobia. She and her husband were about to holiday in Italy and found to her horror that a bus tour they had booked involved travelling through many tunnels, some of them over a kilometre in length.

Her level of anxiety/fear was intense. Just talking about it bought tears to her eyes and her palms were sweaty.

She recounted an experience during a bus tour in the rugged South Island of New Zealand where she and her husband had been seated directly behind the driver who was telling the passengers that sometimes they had to stop the bus in the tunnel to shelter from rock falls onto the adjacent highway. Naturally this bought her anxiety levels to a 12 out of 10!

Compounding this, when the bus reached the tunnel entrance; (the tunnel only catered for one-way traffic) the traffic control lights turned red and the bus waited for 10 minutes for a green light. During this time she had to face the black tunnel entrance whilst her anxiety levels were going completely off the scale!

This was the perfect time to tap and I chose to tap for her whilst she was in this hyper-anxious state.

We used phraseology in the set-ups such as: "Even 'though I am extremely scared of this tunnel/black hole/darkness/being stuck in this hole, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
Reducing the set-up to 'fear of the tunnel', 'fear of the dark' we did several rounds of the upper body tapping points, rapidly reducing her anxiety to a comfortable 2 to 3.

In the ensuing discussion she mentioned her brother deliberately shutting her in cupboards and wardrobes as his idea of fun when they were children.

I used Gary's movie technique to take her back to these incidents and we tapped using the set-ups, "Even 'though I am petrified of the dark," "Even though I may get stuck in here forever", "Even 'though I could kill my brother", again using the "fear of the dark" phrase to tap on the upper body points only.

I retested her anxiety levels by revisiting her tunnel experience in the bus and they were down to a zero.

The result was some big sighs, then she said she was totally sceptical about the whole technique even though her anxiety had gone!

Some three weeks later I received an excited phone call from her, saying they had been through 42 tunnels, one around 2 kilometres long, with only very mild anxiety which she had tapped for. Furthermore, they had also had a 9-day cruise around the Greek Islands and the corridors in the ship had been narrow and dark and she tapped for minor anxiety that arose there. She had thoroughly enjoyed the trip of a lifetime.

This technique is so liberating for so many people.
