William Schenker, MD gives us an inside look at successfully using EFT for some very common ailments.

By William Schenker, MD

Dear Gary:

I'm a 78 year old retired family physician (MD), who's had a lifelong history of severe common colds (medical parlance: viral URI - upper respiratory infection); also in the past 2-3 years a string of severe canker sore infections, about once-a-month.

Common Cold

First, the bouts of severe colds. Ever since I can remember colds got me down bad -- real miserable for 3-4 days and then not feeling well for another 3-4 days. Then about mid-life the colds got worse, much worse - to where I had to go to bed, for several days, sometimes the entire 1st week. Then I'd feel rotten for another week -- total about 2 weeks for each bout.

The end of last month I came down with my latest bout. I woke up one morning with the congested, drippy nose, funny feeling in my throat, a little logey, and maybe a little headache. That said to me: early signs of another cold. Gary said, "Try it on everything" - so I did, within the first few hours of the symptoms. The setup was: "Even though I have this cold coming on..." repeated three times. Then I did the rest of "the basic recipe" -- the full version -- for three rounds.

Within an hour I noticed no increase in symptoms. By noon, when I did my second set of tappings, I noticed a radical decrease in symptom severity, maybe 50% improvement. By evening when I did my 3rd set of EFT my symptoms were 95% gone. The next morning I awoke with some sniffles, so I repeated the EFT set three times during that day. After that no more EFT. During the rest of the week and this morning, I'd get an occasional bout of mild sniffles. But that's about it -- otherwise, the problem was wiped out!

Now this is my first trial with a URI, so I can't vouch for what it will do in the future. However, I can report on another condition, recurrent canker sores which I treated with EFT about a year ago, and I've had a remarkable long-term remission since.

Canker Sores

For most of my life canker sores (medical lingo: aphthous stomatitis, or aphthous oral mucosal ulcers) were a rare affliction, maybe once every 5 or 10 years, at most. Then starting about 2 years ago, I suddenly became victimized to them as often as monthly, on a regular basis. I'd no sooner get over one bout (lasting 3 weeks) when a week later it would be back again (various locations inside my cheeks or the sides of my tongue), The medical books had nothing worthwhile to offer. My ENT guy's Rx did nothing for me. I believe the recurring bouts were due to radical changes in my lifestyle in the past few years.

So when I first ran across EFT I 'tried it on everything' -- i.e., chronic memory problems, and sweets addiction - tapping 3x a day for 30 days each -- with equivocal results (I must say however, that I did all that as a novice tapper.) Then less than a year ago, it suddenly struck me to try it on my recurring canker sores. I waited like a crouched tiger for the first signs of the next bout. It started right after breakfast one morning. The typical, untreated, course begins with what looks like a purple blood blister in the side of the mouth or on the side of the tongue. The lesion swells up to maybe 3/8 inch within 10-15 minutes. Then it bursts, leaving an ulcerated crater. THEN things really start hurting -- it hurts to eat, it hurts to talk -- real bad for 7 to 10 days, then less bad for another 10-14 days. During most of that time my wife complains that I have terrible bad breath (like a small critter has just died in my mouth and rotted away.)

The setup was: "Even tho I have this terrible canker sore...." I did "the basic recipe" (full version) - for three rounds. WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE LESION STOPPED HURTING. WITHIN 20 MINUTES THE LESION HAD FLATTENED OUT WITHOUT BURSTING AND TURNING INTO AN ULCER CRATER. It remained a flat, purplish spot for another couple days or so. I did the tapping three times a day that first day, because I didn't believe the results ("the power of negative thinking"). By the third day it was completely gone -- no evidence of it!

I didn't get the expected recurrence within the month, nor the second month. Then it recurred the third month. I immediately did the full basic recipe. The initial lesion never progressed and was gone in a day or two.

The next recurrence occurred while I was driving, on my way to an important appointment -- no time to pull off the road. "Uh oh -- now I'll pay the piper -- and have to suffer thru a full-blown attack." Well, NO FURTHER DEVELOPMENT -- NO PAIN, NO BURST BLISTER, just the purplish lesion that flattened out and disappeared within a day. At that point it occurred to me that the very first tapping was a permanent fix.

I've since had maybe two or three more bouts -- each of which aborted in the same manner - confirming the effectiveness of that one time EFT treatment.

SUMMARY: Neither URIs nor canker sores are life threatening, but skipping them has sure made life more agreeable. I would also suggest that it is best to use EFT, or anything else, at the earliest possible moment after symptoms appear.

God bless and Many Thanks,

William Schenker, MD
