Psychosis: Hearing Voices--EFT achieves more in one session than 13 years of medications and traditional therapy.

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully, this case by Luke McDonald of Australia will get passed around the psychiatric hospitals and brought to the attention of psychiatrists everywhere. The possibilities of handling severe mental cases with little or no medication should get the attention of the entire mental health field. Please consult physicians on all medical issues.

Hugs, Gary

Hi Gary,

This is a very exciting case regarding benefits for people experiencing a mental illness.

Client X was sent to me by his mother. He is 32 years of age and has been on anti-psychotic medication since he was 19 after being diagnosed with drug induced psychosis. Every night he experiences intrusive voices that abuse him. He wakes up a number of times each night due to these voices. He experiences them during the day but they are not as abusive as they are at night.

On his arrival the conversation started with:

Client - "I have seen the best psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors in Brisbane, why do you think you can help when they can't?"
Silence...(I suddenly feel the need to tap :) )

Me - (pacing the clients current belief) "I can't help you...You have seen the best psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors in Brisbane and now there is only one person who can help you...and it isn't me.

Client - Who?

Me - "You".

At that point I stopped any conversation and told him to do exactly as I do. I went through three rounds of tapping and asked how he felt. "Relaxed" he said.

Now he was in the position where he was open to EFT. I then spent some time explaining the ideas and theories around EFT. Instead of me doing therapy with him, I framed it as me teaching him a self help technique. This reframe worked well for this client.

We tapped on:

Even though I get woken up from terrifying nightmares every night.....
Even though my own head drives me crazy....
Even though I cant control these voices...
Even though these nightmares make me feel like a scared child...

This was 2 weeks ago. He said he is now waking up only once, sometimes twice each night. He said he can't remember if he is hearing any voices during the day.

I know there are still a couple of sessions needed for these specific symptoms and beyond that there is a life to build and skills that need to be learned so I am not proposing a quick cure. However, EFT has achieved more in one session than 13 years of medications and traditional therapy.

Kind regards,

Luke
