Try a motivational Power Hour to improve your business

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Hi Everyone,

Tim Watts from the UK describes his method for creating self-motivation. We all have different styles in this regard and thus some will find the Power Hour useful and some will not. However, the idea of writing down blocks to motivation and then EFT'ing them should be useful for everyone.

Hugs, Gary

Hi Gary, thought your readers may benefit from this simple motivational exercise.

As an EFT Practitioner and Performance Coach I love doing what I do, I love the teaching part, the doing part of the work, it feels great, it feels natural, I enjoy it.  Yet I didn’t enjoy doing the thing that many therapists also don’t enjoy doing … marketing!

So here’s a tip for those of you who shy away from marketing because they simply don’t like doing it (there’s often more to it than that, but I’m going to offer a shortcut to changing the way you feel about marketing your services.)

Before entering the Power Hour, you will find it useful to make a note of blocks to action, such as:

  • I hate marketing, I never know where to start.
  • I can't afford to market my services.
  • I wouldn't know what to do with all these new clients.
  • I wouldn't know how to handle this much money.
  • I hate selling myself, I'd rather just be good at my job and let the clients find me through referral.
  • I know I'm lazy, and frankly I can't be bothered.
  • I'm not trained in marketing.
  • I should stick to what I know - therapy, and not marketing.

I'm sure you can think of other blocks to your taking action.  I then use EFT to eliminate the feelings surrounding these statements, and often have to repeat the EFT process on them more than once to really let go of the limiting negative beliefs.

When EFT is used to eliminate these limiting blocks, or the writing on our internal walls, I experience a new eager level of energy; I feel more creative, and often find myself attracting new clients, or happening upon new opportunities.  The fact is, it works.  I always FEEL more motivated, inspired and driven to create new opportunities whenever I direct EFT to the blocks that usually stop me.

In the beginning, I used to think "Is this really working??!" as it didn't necessarily change me overnight.  I didn't suddenly leap out of bed the next day after the first application of EFT to find myself hopping and skipping down the road, but it has taken persistence and faith over a few years to get to a level where I really find combining EFT with daily life a lot of fun.  Life is far less serious, and a whole lot more interesting.

If you continually write down all the blocks to taking action and then apply EFT to them, your behaviour HAS to change, and your actions become more constructive to building and developing your practice, and your life (if that is your goal).

THE POWER HOUR!

I worked in a telesales environment many years ago, if you can picture the scene, there was a group of us hired to run through a call list, to market to potential customers our wonderful bits of computer hardware.  At any point in time the manager would call POWER HOUR!!!

On this command we all had to stand, and had to push for a new deal, and we had one hour to do it.  Now, you may be asking why we weren’t doing deals during the rest of the time.  Laziness - I’ll admit, I wasn’t putting my all into every call I was making or taking - I wasn’t putting 100% into the marketing letters or follow up calls.

The focus of the hour was to ramp up our energy so high, to get so passionate, eager and hell bent on getting another deal.  Two things happened.  First, figures (number of deals) increased.

Second, and to me this is the most important part, the energy of THE POWER HOUR did not just finish there.  It continued through out the rest of the day.  I can remember wanting to continue standing up making the calls; it was more fun, I got further with each call, it made for a great day, and I was actually enjoying making these calls.

A change in physiology and pressure combined with a very short term goal really, really motivates me.  I have been applying THE POWER HOUR to my business.  I choose an hour to work on, and then wherever I am, whoever I am with, I try and put in the most amount of energy I can muster into whatever it is!

The results have been phenomenal, and I recommend it to anyone.  I have seen tangible results, fantastic!  And also, the energy that is created during the POWER HOUR lingers through the rest of the day; I bump into people I’ve been meaning to contact, I get into companies for corporate coaching that I thought I’d never achieve.  I love the process of being busy and helping others, it takes my mind off any negative STUFF floating around, opens new doors and basically makes for a far more energetic enjoyable and prosperous day!

So, make the decision, wherever you are today, to introduce the POWER HOUR.  Spend one hour making sales calls, writing a new sales letter with vigor, walk straight into a company you’ve been meaning to contact, DO IT! TAKE ACTION, and then leave the results up to your Higher Power!

You may even want to start with the POWER 15 MINUTES!  And then, you may end up with doing THE POWER DAY!

At the end of the day, I recommend to clients the writing of a gratitude list, on this list I include new experiences of the day, the POWER HOUR sure does bring up new and interesting experiences for me, and on my list they go.  It gives me a clear picture of how productive my day has been, and all the blessings I have in my life today.

Have fun with this, throw in energy and passion, especially when you are doing the things you don’t want to do - and especially when applying EFT to a problem or a block.  In my experience, I do things today with enthusiasm that I loathed, and if it can work for me, you can be sure it will work for you!

If you are new to EFT, I encourage you to keep practicing, to keep learning and keep passing on your own experiences to help others!
