Food repulsion: Green furry things and yucky tomatoes!

Hi, Gary.

Thanks to Michelle LaPrise and her post about food repulsion, I decided to work with my 24-year-old son, Jonathan, on a few of his food repulsions. Jonathan loves the results he's had with energy work and has agreed to be my "guinea pig" when I'm learning a new energy modality technique. Just to let you know, Jonathan lives in his own apartment and has a full-time job, but he "hangs out" at my house quite frequently. My husband and I eat dinner with Jonathan most nights.

And he's been a "pain" to cook for because he has always avoided "green furry things," such as peas and lima beans. Gee it's hard to cook soup for a guy like this. I happen to like peas and lima beans, but I've gone out of my way for Jonathan (being the "mother bear" that I am) and have eliminated these green things from most meals. If I do serve them, he methodically and carefully picks them out of whatever I've served. He ends up with a soup bowl filled with these green furry rejects. Sheeessss!

And the comments! Even from a 24-year-old I hear, "Ugh! More green furry things! Yuck!"

Now, do I need that????

So, for self-preservation and to satisfy my own wish to again cook with peas and lima beans, I asked Jonathan if it would be ok to tap for this food repulsion.

He said, "Sure. There's no way it will work, however. I'll never eat a green furry thing." And with that, he took a lima bean and tore it in half and said, "Look at all the fur in there! That's disgusting!"

Well, there's a challenge for Deborah!

I asked him what his SUDS was on these green furry things, and of course, it was a 10. So we did two rounds of tapping on "green furry things."

And it was gone. Zero. No intensity.

And he was curious. He picked up his spoon and gingerly fished a lima bean out of the soup bowl. He ate it. He said, "Not bad." He searched for a pea and ate that. He smiled. "Not bad. I can eat this soup."

And he ate every drop.

Ok. This is fabulous! Now it's time to tap for tomatoes. He's never eaten a tomato because "they have seeds and they look weird."

I got out a box of cherry tomatoes and cut a couple in fourths. I also had a couple whole ones on the same plate. Two rounds of tapping and his SUDS on tomatoes went from 10 to 0. Not bad!

Then he ate them all. No problem.

Funny thing, though. We tapped for cherry tomatoes and he eats them eagerly now. But he won't touch a regular tomato (yet).

The cognitive shift came when he said, "Tomatoes are cute, not yucky."

Dinner is a lot more enjoyable around here for me. We still have to work on mushrooms, but he's not ready for that....yet!!

Best wishes.
