A Useful Way To Find Core Issues In The EFT Process

EFt Tapping Outdated ImageNote: This is one of 3,000 articles written prior to the updated Gold Standard (Official) EFT Tapping Tutorial™. As a result, it is likely outdated. It provides practical uses for EFT Tapping but you should also explore our newest advancement, Optimal EFT, by reading our free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™, and/or get help from a Certified EFT Practitioner.

Hi Everyone,

Our website features numerous ways to discover core issues. These include asking questions, inner child work and various forms of imagination and visualization. Carna Zacharias-Miller adds her own idea to the mix and calls it Magical EFT.

Hugs, Gary

Dear Gary,

Here is a technique I developed that combines the clearing work of EFT with inner journeying and imaginary scenarios. "Magical EFT" is not for everybody: Usually, thorough EFT trauma work with specific memories needs to be done before entering into this realm. However, I have noticed that EFT works faster (less rounds) and often in a gentler, more "tearless" way when done in this metaphorical framework.

Tuned in to the emotional needs and spiritual vision of my client, I facilitate the creation of what I call the Soul Person, an imaginary heroine/hero which is the authentic self. I assist in creating The Story, a mythic tale, and finding an inner home that promotes emotional safety, healing, and creativity.

To release blockages along the way, tapping is used. Sometimes, this is done by staying in the metaphorical context (for example: "Even though the doorknob of my castle's front door is too high, and I can't reach it to open the door."), or we connect to an actual memory that is coming up ("Even though my father said I was stupid when I didn't hand him the right tool to repair the lawnmower.").

Overall, this is not about re-writing or re-imprinting the past, nor is it traditional guided imagery: It is more of a free, just gently supported image streaming process that serves as an "inner theater" frame around EFT.

"Mary", the owner of an artists' studio, gave me permission to tell her Story. I am leaving out much of the sensory details in order to focus on our EFT work.

At the beginning of her journey, Mary finds herself in a field of long, golden grass, surrounded by rolling hills. She is a strong, young woman in King Arthur's time, wearing proudly a multicolored armor that is part of her. Soon she is riding down a path on a horse, and other people join her.

All of a sudden, Mary is feeling a lot of anxiety, nervousness, and concern. We start tapping on the body sensations (tightness in her belly, breaking out in sweat), and emotions like: "I want to run away from these people, I feel overwhelmed". Having released these feelings without the necessity of going into specifics, we continue with the story: Mary arrives at her estate and is getting ready for a meeting with the people who accompanied her. She is the leader and has to make an important decision for all of them. Now, there is massive resistance and tightness everywhere in her body.

She says: I don't want to do this! I don't want to be responsible for other people!" Her intensity makes me ask our famous EFT question: "What does that remind you of?" The response is immediate: "My younger sister. I always had to watch over her, and I was always wrong. It was my fault, no matter what. I never made the right decision. And then I got in trouble."

Asked for a specific memory, Mary comes up with one that is a number 10 on our 0 to 10 scale of discomfort: Once, when she went fishing with her little sister, her fishing pole swung in the wrong direction, and the hook got caught in her sister's eyelid. Nothing real bad came out of it, and it was an accident, but she got in big trouble with her father who yelled at her: "You never get anything right!" In just three rounds of tapping, the intensity of that memory drops down to 0.

The story ends with Mary being in charge of her estate. She is very clear about what needs to be done, has a meeting with her people, and lovingly sends them home. "And then I lived happily ever after - most of the time."

Several days later, Mary reports that it is now much easier for her to do what needs to be done in her art studio. Three months later, she still feels very connected to her True Home (we had spent another session to build a sanctuary and a wellness space there).

An important goal of this work is indeed to achieve changes in the outer, the physical world. EFT practitioner Lynne Shaner experienced that after just two sessions (of course, she has done much clearing work with EFT in the past.). In a delightful back loop, her experience serves EFT itself! "The work in creating a series of inner rooms has been incredibly powerful. It has also been practical on a very real level--- two days after our session together, I gave a workshop at a large law firm that has resulted in ongoing workshops with them and will result in an ongoing stream of clients. This has been an important goal for some time."

And, several weeks later: "I deliberately set aside time this morning to go into my council room that we had created, in order to prepare for a very important meeting that I had scheduled today with a major hospital. I then went off to my meeting and the result could simply not have been more perfect (the intent was about my bringing an intro EFT workshop to the hospital staff.) Not only did we get that scheduled, we also decided that it would be great if I would teach EFT to the nursing staff, bring EFT into pediatric oncology as well as radiation oncology, start doing work toward clinical trials using EFT on specific treatment side effects... etc."

Ultimately, Magical EFT is spiritual work and relates to Gary Craig's vision: "The main purpose of EFT is to pave the way towards Love's Presence (i.e. Grace). Our physical and emotional wounds tend to distract us from this spiritual birthright and, as EFT helps send them away, we find ourselves more in alignment with Source."
