Using EFT

Using EFT for Self-Confidence in a specific area

Important Note: This article was written prior to 2010 and is now outdated. Please use my newest advancement, Optimal EFT. It is more efficient, more powerful and clearly explained in my free e-book, The Unseen Therapist™.  Best wishes, Gary

Here is a use for EFT that applies to almost everyone at one time or another.

Raul Vergini, MD (from Italy) uses EFT along with some self-confidence belief statements to help a competitive motorcycle rider with his self-confidence. Please note: This type of self-confidence building has a wide number of uses. However, there is usually more EFT work to do to bring out one's full potential. Nonetheless, this type of procedure is enormously valuable just before any sports, acting or music performance. It's also indispensable for the student before taking a test ... or for the speaker before that all important speech ... or for the fumbling teenager about to go on his/her first date ... or for human pursuits of almost any kind.

Hi Gary,

Today I worked with a motorcycle rider. He is German (but speaks Italian rather well) and I discovered that he ended 5th at the last world championship for 125cc motorcycles.

Talking with him I discovered that he has a problem mainly with two circuits (France and Brasil) that he doesn't like at all, and that he always raced poorly in them (never better than 8th in those races in 5 years).

As he didn't have any particular emotional feeling about this that could give me a clear 0-10 intensity to start with, I decided to use the VOC (Validity of Cognition) scale, so I asked: how true is the affirmation "I never can go better than 8th in France and Rio circuits" in a 0-10 scale? He answered: "9" (very true).

GC COMMENT: This is a VERY useful approach and it is helpful on most issues. I often give people a belief statement relating to their overall issue (such as: "I'm really angry at the world" or "my ex-husband was born evil"). I then ask them to repeat it and tell me how true it sounds on a 0-10 scale. As the session unfolds, this belief statement sounds less and less true.

DR. VERGINI CONTINUES: After the first round of "even though I never can go better than 8th..." it went to 7, then we persisted by changing some of the wording to include also other possible aspects and it went to 5, then 3, then 2.

Then ... and this is important to recognize ... I realized that when he was at a 2 he was actually giving me the rating for ANOTHER affirmation, namely, "I cannot WIN in France or Brasil". I realized this because I introduced the "I cannot win..." phrase during one of the later set-ups.

So I told him: wait a minute, we are shifting to another statement now. We started with a 9 regarding the "8th position" phrase, but now we are at 2 with the "I cannot win" phrase. It's a completely different thing! How much is now the old "8th place" affirmation? He said: "Oh, it went down to 0 some time ago!"

We laughed and we quickly zeroed in on the "I cannot WIN in France and Brazil" which, of course, was already at a low 2.
