Hi Gary,

I recently read this quote from the Dali Lama, "It is the purpose of our lives to be happy." That hit me like a ton of bricks … why didn't someone tell me that many years ago when I debuted on this earth? That's a terrific thing to tap for. I sent it out to my email list and got great feedback.

On a scale of 0 to 10, measure the intensity of your belief for the above statement, with 10 meaning that you completely believe the statement. Following are some tapping suggestions.

Even though no one told me at birth it was my life's purpose to be happy… I forgive myself for my contribution to it, I forgive others for their contribution to it (or lack of contribution to it by not telling me about it), and I forgive the ancestors for sending down other philosophies.

Even though no one told me at birth it was my life's purpose to be happy… If I knew it was my life's purpose to be happy, I would have never felt that whenever something good happened I had to compensate with something not so good to balance it out so I had to 'pay' for it.  I didn't think we were rewarded for being happy.

If I knew it was my life's purpose to be happy, I would have known I could be happy and not feel I couldn't be happy if others weren't happy.

If I knew it was my life's purpose to be happy, I wouldn't have felt guilty if I was happy.

If I knew it was my life's purpose to be happy, I wouldn't feel guilty if I had more than others... so maybe I 'made sure' I didn't have a lot more?

If I knew it was my life's purpose to be happy, I wouldn't feel guilty if I was happier than others.

If I knew it was my life's purpose to be happy, I wouldn't feel guilty and kept myself from having what I needed.

Even though I didn't know it was my life's purpose to be happy… I forgive myself for living all this time thinking it was only the 'pursuit of happiness' that I should strive for, not the attainment of it.

What is the definition of happiness?  Each person's definition would be different, and of course the Dali Lama wasn't talking about being vain, narcissistic, grasping and selfish... he meant that inner sense of happiness.

Even though I was suppressed, oppressed and repressed, frustrated and angry instead of being happy, independent, liberated and free…

Even though I believed I didn't deserve to be happy, to have enough...

Even though in discriminating between the wheat and the chaff I chose the chaff…

Even though I was hurt by love and protected my heart by being inhibited so I wouldn't be hurt again…

I choose to be happy.  I choose to be independent, liberated and free. I choose to know I deserve to be happy and it's my inalienable right to be so.

I choose the wheat from the chaff and draw in positive people in to my life who are able to accept being happy, too.

I now know and believe it is my inalienable right to be happy. and I am happy and guilt free for the rest of my lives.

State out loud: It is my life's purpose to be happy: Now on a scale from 0-10 where are you?
