Surrogate EFT brings peace to annoying toddler

Here's a very practical application of EFT from Suzanne Zacharia of the UK. How many times have we come across a crying baby, a child's tantrum or an otherwise annoying behavior of a restless toddler? In such cases we can often calm down the child via surrogate EFT (tapping on behalf of the child--either physically or through intention). Suzanne's example gives us some how-to's along these lines.

Hi Gary,

You encourage us to use EFT for children, so I thought I must write and share my immense feeling of joy and relief today.

This morning I had occasion to be on a bus when a cute toddler got on board and positioned herself behind my seat, standing, with her head no more than 10 cm away from mine, and soon proceeded to sing one little riff from a pop song over and over and over again... Into my poor ears!

Driven almost to distraction, I started to do EFT on my finger points for the way I felt and yet the shrill repetitive voice went on and on, so I decided to surrogate tap for her.

I started with "Even though I have this stuck song in my head, I deeply and completely love and accept myself", "this stuck song in my head", "stuck thing in my head", and the shrill repetitive riff stopped. Bliss!

Then she started again, so this time, I started with "Even though I have this stuck thing in my head, I choose to enjoy looking at all the cars". It stopped again, and she started doing cute baby talk, although I felt she was frustrated.

So, not taking any chances this time, I surrogately connected to her feelings and kept tapping for the rest of my journey. "Even though I'm frustrated, I enjoy feeling peaceful. Even though I don't know what's going on, I deeply trust my Mum's judgements. Even though I want to play, I choose to enjoy this peaceful feeling. Even though I'm getting this stuck thought in my head, I choose to enjoy looking around me [just as the repetitive thing started again, and it went straightaway]; at the cars, at all the different colours, at the vans, at the people, at the blue building, etc... Even though I've just pooed my nappy, I deeply accept myself, I'll soon be home and comfortable. Even though I need to sleep, I enjoy feeling peaceful..."

She soon went to sleep, but I just carried on with the "I enjoy feeling peaceful" theme till I calmly reached my destination. I must add that even though I used adult words, I felt them as I said them, and would have used simpler words had I been tapping with her. This way, I felt them more strongly myself, and it is this feeling I was tapping on rather than the words, if you know what I mean.

A now smiling,

Suzanne Zacharia
